The General, Thoracic, Vascular & robotic Team manage the upper GI Service, supporting all upper GI surgeries including Minimally Invasive Oesophagectomies, Breast Surgery, Colorectal Surgery, Colorectal Robotic Surgery, Thoracic, Thoracic Robotic Surgery including VAT’s Video Assisted Thoracoscopic procedures, (the Norfolk & Norwich being the home to a Centre of Excellence for robotic surgery ) and Vascular surgery including joint working with The Norfolk Centre for Interventional Radiology Department, the unit provides state of the art mínimally invasive procedures using advanced radiological image techniques, under the guidance of X-rays, ultrasound and CT.

As a deputy team leader, you will be required to lead and manage the theatres and the team on daily basis, providing supervision, organisation and co-ordination of the staff, theatres, and all aspects of service provision including HR auditing and data collection. There will be the opportunity to be involved with theatre utilisation and productivity including all the multidisciplinary teams that are involved in this process.

The post-holder is responsible for supporting the clinical lead in providing effective management, co-ordination of patient care and activity to the highest level throughout the patient’s operative pathway, in order to promote a patient centred approach to high quality health care whilst upholding and influencing professional and Trust Pride values.

- Co-ordinate and communicate the placement of appropriate personnel/skills across the department and other areas in the Trust, including in the event of untoward incidents e.g. MAJAX
- Undertake designated responsibilities in the event of a ‘MAJAX’ in accordance with trust guidelines.
- Able to interpret changes in patient physical signs and take appropriate action. Cardiac and Respiratory arrest and resuscitation of patients.
- Responsible for assembling specialised medical equipment ready for use on patients e.g. compartment syndrome monitoring.
- Ensure that the care of all patients is assessed, planned, implemented, evaluated, and appropriately documented.
- Initiate and participate in quality initiatives with the aim of improving patient care, promote evidence based practice and implement action plans as necessary
- Provide the relevant clinical learning experiences in an approved environment, in liaison with the Theatre Training Department and School of Nursing and Midwifery.
- Facilitate a system of clinical supervision in conjunction with the clinical leader/manager.
- Regularly review and update own professional development.
