The Role

This leadership role oversees the regional Marketing team to develop and execute marketing strategy for the Specialist Art Portfolios based in the region and for the region itself. The scope is wide ranging and encompasses all elements of marketing; communications, proposals, creative and content.

The role will lead a team across Strategy, Creative, Proposals, Content and Commnications to ensure comprehensive and effective campaigns are developed for the EMEA sales (live auction, online and private) and for the region itself.

You will have top level oversight of the Marketing budget and its allocation in comprehensive campaign planning; advertising (digital and print); catalogue strategy (digital and print); exhibition direction; direct mail; video; sale-related events and other initiatives, including corporate objectives for the region such as Educational Strategy and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). Consideration will be given to Christie’s three primary sale channels: Live Auction, Online and Private Sales.

You will need to manage the Strategy, Creative, Content, Communications and Proposals teams and work collaboratively alongside the central CRM, Digital Strategic Marketing, Client Insights, Strategic Partnerships, Web Production and Client Experience teams in order to leverage marketing expertise and to develop a ‘joined-up’ client approach. The role will require consistent and expert level dialogue with senior stakeholders from across the business; this will include direct engagement with the relevant regional President and regional Chairman’s offices.

Specific duties & responsibilities will include but are not limited to
- Drive improvements to internal process mapping for ideal Marketing team performance and integration, creating an efficient and agile team
- Accountable for developing an effective marketing strategy to support/enable the EMEA-based business to deliver against their objectives
- Manage the heads of Marketing Strategy, Creative, Comms & Content and Proposals teams partnering with the other Heads of Marketing for Americas & Asia (as appropriate) to ensure optimal operation of teams, guidelines, systems and processes as well as marketing planning and execution.
- Oversee a coordinated approach for marketing the Specialist Art Portfolios in the region, corporate initiatives in the region, working closely with Head of Client Strategy, Client Insights, CRM and other stakeholders to deliver on an evidence-built strategy
- Ensure your Marketing Strategy team are developing effective and innovative marketing strategies for the region and all the teams across creative, content, communciations are collaborating successfully to execute that strategy.
- Accountable for the management of Christie’s strategic brand initiatives within the region, ensuring delivery is aligned with the overall Christie’s corporate strategy, voice and vision
- Responsible for the top line allocation, management and optimization of the marketing budget for the relevant Specialist Art Departments / region - ensuring your Marketing Strategy team are responsible for the management of their specialist art department marketing budgets and that they work collaboratively with Business Management and Finance Business Partner.
- Ensure Marketing Strategy work with the appropriate data team(s) to gauge the effectiveness of all marketing initiatives ensuring any reasonable adjustments and recommendations are actioned accordingly
- Lead, develop, motivate and retain a team of marketing and creative talent
- Ensure that each team has clear and measurable objectives which are aligned to the overall strategy of the region and the organisation.
- Develop strong working relationships across the teams in EMEA as well as globally.
- Be the internal figurehead for Marketing in the region, communicating successes, new developments and overall effectiveness to internal stakeholders
- Strong leadership skills to shape, lead and inspire a strong and innovative team across all disciplines of Strategy, Communications, Creative, Content and Proposals
- A natural collaborator able to to partner effectively with multiple stakeholders
- Expert “influencer” to get the right outcomes in a highly complex and matrixed organisation
- Innovative and creative approach to marketing that brings fresh new ideas that will increase revenue by building new audiences
- Excellent interpersonal skills suitable for dealing with internal clients who require responsive and deadline-driven service
- Skilled multi-tasker; combines strategic thinking with ongoing execution in an active, global art market; to simultaneously encourage the development of compelling plans, oversee successful execution and drive through measurable results that in turn will inform future plans
- Willing and able to take a hands-on approach when required
- Experience in a similar role; luxury (art or lifestyle brand experience a plus)
