Derby, United Kingdom Central England Coop Full time

**What will you be doing?**: A career in funeral care is a rewarding and unique opportunity. Caring for families is at the heart of what we do; it’s in our culture. Our funeral team member apprenticeship allows you to learn what it takes to help our families when they need us the most.

You’ll join us on an 18 month programme, studying a Level 2 funeral qualification (equivalent to 5 GCSEs) whilst undertaking the role of Funeral Services Assistant. During your apprenticeship you’ll develop to become our families’ first point of contact. You’ll build relationships with families at a difficult moment as we take responsibility for the care and preparation of their loved one.

You’ll have the privilege to look after the preparation and presentation of the person who has passed away, which includes washing and dressing them with the dignity and respect that this personal act requires.

**What’s involved in the apprenticeship?**

We’ve partnered with an external apprenticeship training provider to progress you through your apprenticeship. You’ll spend 20% of your working hours dedicated to completing your apprenticeship - from attending webinars and interactive workshops to writing assignments, or discussing your progress with your mentor, buddy or line manager. You’ll be fully supported along the way - we’re committed to your success and your development.

**How will I know if I am right for this role?**:
**What in it for you?**

You’ll join our team on £10.75 per hour and receive a whole range of additional benefits, including 23 days holiday per year, paid time for volunteering and colleague discount (across all areas of our Society including food stores). We also offer all our colleagues a range of retail discounts through our internal difference maker hub, such as discounts or cashback with Just Eat, Asos, Primark & JD Sports, plus hundreds of other retailers.

The Level 2 Funeral Team Member qualification will become a great foundation to develop your career. We offer structured career paths and our Let’s Talk conversations keep your development on track to enable you to achieve your full potential.

You don’t need any previous funeral experience to join us on this apprenticeship. It’s your personal qualities that will make you successful in this role.

If you have compassion, empathy and take pride in your professionalism and the thought of caring for the deceased with care and respect speaks to you, then a fulfilling career in funeral could be right for you. This is an extraordinary opportunity for extraordinary people.

We’re looking for people from all walks of life, whether you’ve had your own experiences that lead you to wanting to pursue a role in funeral care, or you have a passion for helping people and wish to make a difference to your community. With the right coaching, guidance and ability to learn being provided, a long-term and fulfilling career path in a caring profession is waiting for you.

In order to secure a place on this apprenticeship you’ll:

- Be over 16 years of age and not in education
- Have lived in the UK for at least 3 years
- Hold a UK driving license
- Hold a Level 1 qualification in Maths and English (GCSE grade D-G/1-3)
