Bristol, United Kingdom University of Bristol Full time

**The role**:
The Research Contracts Team is looking for a skilled contracts officer to draft, review and negotiate research and research-related contracts for projects led by academics in the Faculty of Engineering.

The University of Bristol is ranked as a world leader in research with research and contracts income of circa £200m per annum. As a University we value and take pride in our research outcomes and this is an opportunity to be part of a process that is intended to create real impact both globally and locally.

As Research Contracts Officer you will manage a caseload of research and research-related contracts. You will work closely with other teams in the University and be supervised by a research contracts manager in the team.

The Research Contract Team is a progressive and pro-active team that is always looking to improve its systems and processes. We look to create a positive experience for the academic clients and a friendly and collaborative work environment for the Research Contract Specialists.

**What will you be doing?**:
Reporting to the Research Contracts Manager in the Faculty of Engineering, you will be expected to draft, review and, where required, negotiate research and research-related contracts. You will be expected to work independently but will have the support of a friendly and professional team of research contracts officers and managers. The type of contracts that you might be expected to work on include collaboration agreements, award letters, grant agreements, material transfer agreements, confidentiality agreements and other agreements typical for this role. These agreements will usually be based on template agreements (Brunswick, Lambert Agreements). However, an ability to review, understand and explain these template agreements (including any changes thereto) as well as the ability to draft bespoke provisions will be required.

A key aspect of the role will be to manage a caseload of contracts. You will need to be able to work collaboratively with finance and academic staff - as such being a calm, confident and able communicator is key to success in this role.

Knowledge and understanding of the higher education sector and would also be an advantage.
- internal/external secondments (with approval from your current line manager);
- a solicitor or paralegal in private practice looking to move to research contracts; or
- a research contracts professional in the HEI sector, or work with contracts elsewhere.

We are able to offer flexible hybrid/fully remote working arrangements.

We have an excellent track record of providing training in both hard and soft skills designed to develop a well rounded pragmatic and commercially focused legal advisor.
