Strategy & Governance Officer: Salary: Grade 7.1 - 7.8: £36,024 - £44,263 p.a

The role of **Strategy and Governance Officer **requires a pro-active, results-oriented strategic thinker with excellent project management and communication skills. It involves supporting and advising the College in maintaining its policies and complying with its regulatory duties, as well as providing practical support for the delivery of a wide range of strategic initiatives and transformational projects.

**Key duties**

Duties and responsibilities are divided into three main areas:
**College Governance**
- Work with the Provost, Committee Chairs and Committee Secretaries to help ensure that all committees work effectively, with a good understanding of annual cycles of business and responsibilities to review strategy, risk, policies, compliance, reporting and future planning.
- Act as Secretary to the Governance and Compliance Committee (chaired by the Vice-Provost), and provide advice and administrative support in the preparation of agendas, papers, policies or reports going to or from the Committee.
- Ensure all policies and procedures are kept up to date, published where appropriate, and communicated to all College members whom they affect or involve, as part of the College’s compliance duties.

**College Strategy**
- Work closely with the College Provost and senior leadership to inform, facilitate and conclude delivery of the College strategy.
- Provide administrative, coordination and programme management support for a number of College transformation projects, and prepare reports or briefings as required to keep College members informed or raise issues for further consideration or consultation. (Current projects include strategic action plans for the College’s Sustainability and Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) ambitions, as well as major capital projects to be delivered over the next two to five years.)
- Organise regular briefings, consultations and workshops with staff and students to help build engagement and maintain momentum on achieving strategic objectives and delivering project outcomes.
- Ensure a high level of coordination and alignment between the Provost’s Office and all other offices, supporting the effective implementation of strategic plans and projects.

**College internal communications**
- Collect, prepare or analyse information in reports or proposals going to or from Governing Body, to facilitate understanding and communication with the wider College community.
- Maintain strategic oversight of the College’s internal SharePoint site and work with the College Communications Manager to help ensure that information is kept up to date and relevant for all members of the College community.
- Work with the Provost’s Executive Assistant to provide general support to the Provost, especially in dealing with strategic or governance issues.

**Skills and experiences required**

**Essential**
- A degree or post-graduate degree or equivalent practical and professional experience
- Experience of strategic project delivery - project management, project liaison, meeting deadlines and providing regular updates and regular reports
- Experience of policy development and general understanding of higher education or charity sector regulatory environments
- A high degree of discretion, diplomacy and tact, especially in handling sensitive or confidential matters
- Excellent writing skills, and experience of undertaking research with an ability to present information, analysis and arguments clearly and accurately
- A proactive and flexible working approach, with the ability to work in collaborative and consultative ways to build strong relations with colleagues
- Excellent computer skills including: Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint

**Desirable**
- Knowledge of the higher education sector, the University of Oxford and its Collegiate system in particular
- Experience of using SharePoint
- Experience of higher education policy development

This role is full-time and fixed-term, two years but capable of renewal by agreement. 37.5 hours each week, standard hours are from 9 am until 5.30 pm: some flexibility in hours and/or work patterns for this role would be possible. The College supports flexible and hybrid working.
