- Job description- We are seeking highly motivated people to work as Environmental Crime Officers as part of our Northeast Area Enforcement Team.
You will be able to demonstrate practical experience of undertaking regulation and enforcement. Ideally with experience of criminal investigations into illegal activity or compliance, experience in dealing with environmental issues, incidents, evidence gathering, writing statements, interviewing suspects, taking witness statements, and preparing casefiles.
Ideally you will hold or have held an enforcement warrant. You should be able to proactively establish good working relationships with colleagues and partners (both internal and external). We are looking for someone with a proven ability to complete tasks accurately and with minimum supervision, either working by yourself or as part of a team.

Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.
- The team- The Area Enforcement Team’s prime responsibility is to tackle serious / complex environmental crime and to help prevent crime from occurring withing the waste industry. The team also helps the other Regulatory teams with their enforcement work. At times we undertake surveillance work and knowledge of this would be advantageous though not essential.
- Experience/skills required- You will have experience of working in intelligence led enforcement and an active involvement in regulation and investigations. The ability to establish excellent working relationships with colleagues, internal and external partners is essential.
You will have working knowledge of investigative legislation, including the Police and Criminal Evidence Act and its Code of Practice and Criminal Procedures Investigation Act. A Knowledge of environmental legislation including Environmental Permitting Regulations 2016, Environment Act 1995 and Environmental Protection 1990 would be advantageous.
You will have a proven ability to complete tasks accurately and with minimum supervision, working by yourself or as part of a team.
