- Job description- We are looking for a confident and enthusiastic individual to join the Regulated Industry department to deliver targeted engagement to prevent and disrupt waste crime in the North East Area.
A blend of excellent communication skills and engagement experience is needed alongside technical knowledge of the Environment Agency’s role in waste and enforcement.
In this role, you will work closely with internal colleagues and external partners to:

- determine waste crime engagement priorities for our area, that also support national priorities for tackling waste crime;
- facilitate conversations about technical issues relating to waste crime and encourage partnership working;
- improve how we share intelligence to help enhance our ability to tackle emerging waste crime issues;
- lead on planning, developing and delivering engagement, encouraging a multi-agency approach where appropriate;
- contribute to planning, developing and delivering engagement nationally through a virtual team to ensure consistent messaging is used across the organisation and to share good practice and ways of working.
- The team- The North East Area’s Regulated Industry Department regulates the waste industry from the Scottish borders down to Teesside. Their key work involves inspections, investigations and enforcement on permitted sites, exempt activities and illegal waste operations.
- Experience/skills required
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and be able to produce high quality, plain English work, with a consideration about how to adapt this to persuade people inside and outside the organisation to take action.
- Highly organised and flexible person who is able to self-manage and multi-task to meet tight deadlines and prioritise workloads.
- Experience and drive in implementing innovative engagement methods, as well as strong technical expertise in identifying and implementing a wide range of engagement methods to suit different audiences.
- A good understanding of, and ideally technical experience of, the Agency’s role as a waste regulator and in enforcement.
- The ability to work in partnership and experience in influencing and building relationships with internal/external stakeholders.
- Knowledge and understanding of intelligence handling would be advantageous
