Job description

**Interested in making a difference through grantmaking?**

We are Rocket Science. A business with a social purposed committed to tackling inequalities through research, evaluation and grant making. You can find out more about us and why we do what we do in this one minute video.

We are recruiting for a Grants Officer in our London office to help manage a diverse portfolio of projects and contribute to developing our business. You can find out more about what a day at Rocket Science looks like and what motivates our people by checking out these stories from our team.

Our people come from a range of backgrounds and experiences. What brings us all together is a commitment to provide support, guidance and recommendations based on our experience and insights from working across a variety of impact driven programmes including education, employment, housing, and communities.

**Here are some recent programmes we are supporting**:

- Go London
- L&Q Foundation
- London Violence Reduction Unit: Stronger Futures Programme
- Youth Futures Foundation
- Greater London Authority: School Superzones
- Greater London Authority: Building Strong Communities

You will have lots of opportunities to develop and grow your skills, experience and understanding of peoples’ needs and services and what works or needs to change in improving the lives of people facing disadvantage and inequalities.

We offer hybrid and a range of flexible working arrangements around a 37.5-hour week, 36 days holiday, 6% contributory pension, health and wellbeing support, income protection and other support such as travel loans and learning vouchers. We also have a real commitment to supporting our people to have a good work life balance, to manage their work around any caring responsibilities, health conditions and changing situations and importantly we have worked hard to eradicate a ‘long hours’ culture.

**What will you be doing?**

Our Grants Officers play a significant role in helping to manage projects and people. You

will be integral to the delivery of a range of projects often responsible to a Senior Grants Officer:

- Managing your workload daily to support the delivery of grant programmes including eligibility checks, assessments, monitoring returns, outcome communication and servicing clients with programme updates. We use online grantmaking systems including Blackbaud Grantmaking and Fluent Flexi-Grant
- Working collaboratively with the team to meet client deadlines
- Bringing your skills and expertise to programmes to support existing programme learning and reflection, and recommendations to the design of new programmes
- Producing high quality customer service with your team through communication, and recommendations. These include infographics, dashboards and recommendation portfolios.
- Undertaking site visits both virtually and face-to-face, client meetings as required and payment recommendations for authorisation.

**What can you offer?**

We are looking for someone with at least 12 months grantmaking experience, a good communicator with an interest in at least one of our areas of work. Ideally you will have experience of managing multiple projects and be used to working to deadlines.

Importantly we are looking for someone who is great at working as part of a team and can develop close and trusted relationships with existing and potential clients.

After you have settled in you will have a lot of autonomy, but with a supportive, coaching led approach to your development, so being able to plan and prioritise workloads is an important skill.

Your ability to think critically and to analyse and interpret information taking it from insight through to action will also be important as will be your writing and presentation skills. We use a range of software including Excel, PowerBi, Google, SmartSurvey MAXQDA and ArcGIS as well as a range of data tools so experience of these will be helpful.

**How to apply**

If shortlisted we will share the interview questions and formats with you in advance as we are keen to hear your views and experiences and discuss the role in a more dynamic way.

The first stage will comprise a competency based interview lasting 45 minutes with 15 minutes for any questions you may have. You will meet two of the grants team along with one of our Directors, Caroline or Cherri and it’s a chance to find out more about us and what you could bring to the role. The second will be a discussion to get to know you and meet other members of the team. We will also ask you to complete a short assessment which is to assess your skills and an informal chat with other staff members for you to ask any questions you would like to. We will also want to reflect on your work and experience with examples of programmes and reports you have been involved with. If successful we will ask for references from you then.

**Good luck**
- Rocket Science operates an equal opportunities policy and will appoint solely on
