As part of our commitment to sustainability, we are seeking a Material Innovation Executive to drive the exploration and implementation of cutting-edge circular and bio-derived materials, contributing to Packamama’s innovation pipeline.

**Job Summary**

As a Material Innovation Executive at Packamama, you will play a pivotal role in advancing our packaging materials beyond recycled PET. Your primary role is to lead the research, development, and implementation of novel materials, specifically focusing on biobased or biodegradable alternatives and circular materials that possess strong market potential. This position demands a deep understanding of polymer science and material chemistry and a forward-thinking approach to introduce materials like, but not limited to, polyethylene furanoate (PEF) or polyhydroxyalkanoate (PHA) to our product line.

**Key Responsibilities**

**Research and Development**:

- Conduct comprehensive research to identify and evaluate new biobased, circular and low-carbon materials suitable for beverage packaging.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams and suppliers to assess material properties, sustainability, and scalability.
- Develop expertise in novel raw materials and factory processes to identify new opportunities in product development.

**Material Assessment**:

- Analyse the performance, durability, and environmental impact of potential materials.
- Develop testing protocols to ensure new materials meet quality standards and regulatory requirements.
- Manage NPD-related administration, ensuring all documentation is up-to-date with accurate information.

**Partnership and Collaboration**:

- Build and maintain relationships with external partners, suppliers, and research institutions to stay updated on emerging material innovations.
- Collaborate with these entities to drive material development and procurement strategies.

**Innovation Implementation**:

- Collaborate closely with engineering and production teams to integrate new materials into the manufacturing process.
- Conduct trials, provide technical expertise, and oversee the scaling of new materials for commercial use.
- Create and manage detailed project plans, timelines, and budgets for product development initiatives.

**Documentation and Reporting**:

- Maintain detailed records of research, development processes, and material testing results.
- Prepare comprehensive reports and presentations to communicate findings and recommendations to internal stakeholders.
- Update project progress to the wider team, via frequent meetings and in accordance with project timelines.

**Essential Skills, Experience and Qualifications**
- Recent graduate with a degree in Polymer Science, Material Chemistry, or a related field.
- Strong understanding of polymer science, material properties, and chemical analysis techniques.
- Strategic thinking and a creative problem-solving attitude, with the capability to manage multiple projects.
- Excellent numerical and communication skills with the ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- A passion for sustainability and a proactive approach towards material innovation, with a good understanding of waste management processes.
- Desirable skills include an understanding of packaging manufacturing processes, knowledge of biobased or biodegradable materials, and familiarity with laboratory procedures, material testing, and data analysis.
