**About Aberlour Routes Falkirk**:
Routes is an evidence-based youth work programme which supports young people aged 12-26 years affected by alcohol or drug use within their family. Routes offers a mix of one-to-one and group support, along with a busy programme of activities and events bringing young people together. There is no time limit to their involvement, allowing trust to develop with workers and other young people, and all support is individually tailored to each young person.

The Routes model engages young people to effect change in their lives, recognising that living with chaos and trauma in your family does not need to lead to poor outcomes. With the right support, young people can take a very different path, and have a positive future.

**What we are looking for....**:
As a Community Support Practitioner, you will offer community-based support to young people through one-to-one and group support, plan and deliver a programme of activities and organise events bringing young people together.

Not afraid to test new ways of working, you will bring a fresh, caring, compassionate and collaborative approach which responds empathically to the needs of young people and their families. The work will include early mornings, evenings and weekends. You will have experience of direct practice within this field of work, including child/adult protection issues as well as having experience of working with young people.

You will work within a variety of locations in the Falkirk area, including family homes, schools and community settings.

**Community Support**
**Practitioner Routes Falkirk**

**JOB PURPOSE**

To deliver programmes of support for young people, aged 12-26, who are affected by family
alcohol and drugs issues. Within the framework of agreed support programmes work with
young people on a 1:1 or group basis, supporting them to engage with peers in their local
community.

**PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES**
- Develop person-centred working relationships with young people aged 12-26 years

old affected by family drug and alcohol issues, supporting them to use their

strengths to develop coping strategies, build resllilience, self-esteem and

confidence, reducing the impact on them of others’ drug/alcohol use..
- Work with young people (individually and in groups) building on their strengths,

assets and interests to build capacity and resilience.
- To utilise person centred planning techniques and tools, and range of practice

methods/interventions with young people.
- Work alone and collaboratively with team members to provide practical support to

young people at times when support is needed. Support colleagues through peer

and live support to ensure best practice Plan, design and deliver appropriate

individual and group work using innovative and creative approaches.
- Assist in developing assessment, planning, delivery and evaluation reports of services

with young people and other key people.***
- Maintain accurate records and contribute to reports.***
- Advocate for young people and support them to build on their skills to self advocate.

connections and social networks.
- Provide advocacy and safe-spaces for young people ensuring that those engaged

with the programmes are safeguarded and supported.

**Quantifiable responsibilities**
- Accountable for petty cash transactions.

**SCOPE OF PLANNING AND ORGANISATION**

The post holder reports to theLead Practitioner.

Work is allocated by the line manager.

The post holder will have autonomy in managing their diary, to respond to families’ needs.

The post holder will be involved in lone working, paired working and team working
arrangements.
