**JOB PURPOSE**:
To escort patients between departments, wards and buildings. To transport equipment, medical records, mail, meals, specimens and linen. The post may also require the post holder to move furniture and drive a vehicle to carry out duties

This Job Description is not exhaustive and other duties and responsibilities of a similar level and nature may be required from time to time.

**MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES / KEY RESULTS AREAS**:
1.

To escort patients between wards, departments and clinics.

2.

Collect and deliver specimens and results.

3.

Remove obsolete equipment and furniture.

Be aware of and adhere to regulations relating to Fire Safety, Health & Safety at work, COSHH, manual handling.

Collect and deliver blood products from blood bank and check patient's details.

Remove linen, clinical and household waste from wards/departments to central location point when required.

Respond to Fire and Major Incident activations.

Collect and deliver medical equipment.

Change medical gas cylinders and top up gas store.

Remove bodies to the Mortuary.

Organise and be present at patient viewings and police identification.

Assist in minor office moves.

Transport and manual handling of patients who weigh between 63.5kg to 254kg.

To report problems that will affect the services; equipment, supplies and quality issues to the Management.

Communicate with line manager(s), colleagues and external contacts e.g. police, fire brigade and undertakers on a regular basis.

Top up clean linen and supply new linen bags.

Cover various departments out of hours: Pharmacy, Theatres, X-Ray, CSSD and postholder is required to supply an “out of hours” service to Medstrom e.g. supply clean beds, mattresses and cot sides, plus the removal of soiled products

Ensure the hospital site is locked down at night and reopened in the morning.

Respond to all alarm activations across site.

Any other duties appropriate to the post which may be required to facilitate the efficient running of the department and associated areas.

**ENVIRONMENT**:
a)

**Physical**:
1. Postholder will be working in a hospital and ward environment.

2. Postholder will be require to work in a variety of environments, which may

include controlled temperatures, security issues or PPE requirements.

3. Manual handling elements.

4. The role requires the Postholder to be physically active in the performance of

their duties.

b)

**Mental / Complexity**:
1. Concentration is required when driving a vehicle.

2. Ensure patient details are kept together, for the correct person and

transported safety.

3. Gas cylinder gauges need to be checked for compliance.

4. All H&S regulations are adhered too depending on task in hand.

c)

**Emotional**:

- Frequent exposure to emotional circumstances (e.g. mortuary moves includes patient viewings and police identification)
- Transporting patients with unknown conditions, some which could be contagious or life threatening.

**Health & Safety**:The Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 and amendments state it is responsibility of all employees to comply with Health and Safety Law. The post holder will be required to attend all statutory Health and Safety training as directed by Mitie (Facilities Management) Ltd.

**No Smoking**:
There is a policy of No Smoking** **across the site.

**Location**:
The postholder may be required to work at other Mitie locations from time to time. Reasonable notice of any such changes will be provided.
