Specialist Speech and Language Therapist Mainstream

To provide a specialist Speech and Language Therapy (SLT) service (including assessment, diagnosis and implementation of specialist SLT treatment programmes) to children 0-19 with the full range of speech, language and communication needs (SLCNs) within community clinic and mainstream educational settings. To provide Parent Child Interaction training for children and families where the child presents with a fluency disorder. To act as an autonomous practitioner providing, assessment, diagnosis, treatment, opinion and evaluation in these areas of specialism. To act as a specialist resource within the Community Paediatric SLT Team providing clinical supervision, guidance, shadowing opportunities and mentorship for junior staff To liaise with and advise parents, Local Education Authority and Nursery staff and other Agencies/Professionals involved with children on the SLT caseloads.
To regularly plan, supervise and monitor the work of Speech and Language Therapy Assistants and students. To support the clinics team in the development and provision of training programmes to the pre-school settings. To provide appropriate clinical supervision and in-service training for speech and language therapy colleagues, assistants and students. To participate in research and audit in specialist area as required To work as part of a multi-disciplinary team in order to provide an integrated approach to each childs specific communication difficulties.
To analyse and evaluate personal clinical performance in a reflective manner to ensure continued personal and professional development and the maintenance of an up to date knowledge base. To work with Trust policies and procedures that ensure patient safety at all times To work as a specialist practitioner within a multi-disciplinary team of an integrated workforce that is based in the community to meet the health needs of children in Gateshead Act as a clinical resource for members of the extended multidisciplinary team in their area of expertise. To act as a resource ensuring trained staff maintain their agreed levels of competency within their scope of practice. To provide excellence in clinical care and working to achieve the highest level of patient safety.
To continuously develop the service and constantly strive to improve To contribute towards service evaluation and demonstration of efficacy and efficiency.
