A rare oporunity has arisen to join the Gateshead Children's Speech and Language Therapy Team as a Speech and Language Therapy Assistant.

Working as part of an innovative team, this role supports children and young people aged 2-19 whom have speech, language, and/or communication needs.

The post holder will work under the supervision of enthusiastic therapist to provide therapy and support to children and their families.

To implement therapy programmes devised by Speech and Language Therapists for groups of children and individuals

To modify approaches and activities within programmes to meet requirements/contexts

To liaise with individuals involved with the patient including families and other professionals

To prepare therapy materials for own therapy and resources required by the Mainstream Speech and Language Therapy team

To support administrative procedures in the team as required


Based in the North East of England we provide a range of hospital and community health services from our leading facilities, including the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Blaydon urgent care centre and Bensham Hospital, all within Gateshead.

Deliver hands on clinical care to a designated case load of patients within Gateshead as a caseload holder for defined groups of patients

To contribute to the innovation of therapy resources and produce resources to support effective therapy for children on the mainstream caseload

To carry out administrative procedures for own cases and to support wider adminastruve procedures of the Mainstream Speech and Language Therapy team

To support the team approach to delivering new innovative models of care for patients across pathways and across providers as defined by the Community Services Business Unit and Community Paediatric SLT Team Clinical Lead


Follow systems and processes are in place to maintain patient safety in line with choose safer care programme in collaboration with the Community Service Managers Quality and Risk Managers and Clinical Lead.

Ensure the experience of our patients and their families is understood within the service and feedback is used to improve future service provision

To facilitate an environment where health promotions and informed patient choice is encouraged and developed to its maximum potential, within the available resources


Responsible on a day to day basis for work load and priority setting within agreed timescales, of self and others as required.
