This is an extremely exciting opportunity to be a part of a pilot specialist Post-ICU Psychology service. The service has funding for 20 months and will be made up of a Principal Clinical Psychologist / Service Lead (0.2 WTE), who will supervise a Band 8a Highly Specialist Psychologist (1.0 WTE), who will supervise and a Band 5 Assistant Psychologist (1.0 WTE).

You will be a key player in developing, delivering and evaluating this new service, offering truly patient-focused, innovative, compassionate, highly-skilled and supportive time-limited interventions informed by evidence-based biopsychosocial principles.

The interventions offered will draw mainly on CBT, ACT, CFT and EMDR approaches (and other therapeutic approaches where appropriate), working with post-ICU related trauma, loss, difficulty with adjustment, anxiety and depression.

There will be a focus on ensuring that our work improves people’s understanding of the drivers of post-ICU distress, enhances motivation for change, increases participation in meaningful activities, leads to development of adaptive and effective ways to manage distressing thoughts and emotions, and improves quality of life for patients and relatives/ carers.

Post-holders will contribute to regular and ongoing evaluation using qualitative and quantitative methods, and there will be an emphasis on collecting a variety of comprehensive information throughout the project. As well as the categories of focus listed above, demographic information, levels of satisfaction and patient feedback will be key targets for data collection, in order to understand how the service is meeting the needs of the service users, and providing opportunities for improvement via regular feedback from key stakeholders.

Provision will be offered using a stepped-care model across key time points in the post-ICU recovery journey. The postholders will offer a blend of direct 1:1 sessions, groups, and one-off Information Sessions both in person
