**Job Title**

Visitor Welcome & Retail Assistant (1 April - 29 October)

**Responsible To**

Visitor Services Manager/Shop Manager

**Primary Responsibilities**

To create a welcoming, happy, and helpful atmosphere at Trebah by providing exceptional customer service as part of the visitor welcome and retail team. Meeting and greeting visitors, you will ensure everyone feels welcome to Trebah. Identifying the needs of our visitors you’ll help orientate them around the site and answer questions. Selling admission tickets and retail items, you’ll also promote Trebah Membership & Gift Aid on entry to maximise our income as a charity.

A positive can-do attitude is more important than experience as full training will be given, but punctuality and the ability to communicate in an articulate and friendly manner is essential. Postholders must be willing to work flexibly across 7 days, including weekends and bank holidays. There may also be occasional evening opportunities for events and functions.

Trebah Garden Trust has owned and operated Trebah Garden as an independent charity (no. 1000067) since 1990. The work of our staff and time given by our volunteers contributes towards our charitable purpose, chiefly to: “preserve, enhance and re-create for the enjoyment of the public, the gardens of Trebah”. Today we welcome up to 120,000 visitors per annum to our gardens and our private beach.

**Main duties/responsibilities**

Offering a warm greeting to visitors, checking in pre-booked visitors’, taking payment, and occasional refunds

Promoting Trebah Membership and take up of Gift Aid on Entry

Identifying visitors’ needs and offering relevant information and assistance to enhance their visit, i.e. tailoring information to families, visitors with dogs, or visitors who require information on accessibility

Receiving, checking off, and labelling of goods delivered. Replenishing and storing leaflets/stock as directed to keep displays well presented at all times

Provide information on events and sell tickets if applicable

To collect feedback and recommend visitor comment cards where appropriate

Gain knowledge of Trebah, its garden and its history

Maintaining excellent standards of presentation

Supporting the collection of visitor data, ie dog numbers

Keeping all areas clean, tidy, and free of rubbish

**Main duties/responsibilities continued**

Ensure promotional materials and signage are relevant, well stocked, and in date

Operating tills and card machines as required

Ensure the Health and Safety of visitors and acting as the eyes and ears and reporting any concerns immediately

Answer telephone queries in a polite and helpful manner

Taking receipt of deliveries

Anything else as reasonably requested by Trebah

In addition, all employees have a responsibility for their own health and safety and that of others (staff, volunteers, and visitors), when carrying out their duties

Postholders will be required to wear the Trebah uniform and badge (provided)

**Knowledge and Skills required**:
Excellent Communication and customer service skills

Ability to work calmly under pressure and use own initiative

Ability to work as part of a team

Positive, flexible, and ‘can-do’ attitude

**Experience Required**:
Able to demonstrate experience in an environment with a strong customer service ethos

**Interviews will be taking place on 20 & 21 February 2023**

**Job Types**: Part-time, Temporary contract, Zero hours contract
Contract length: 7 months

**Salary**: £8.00-£10.90 per hour
