**The Crouch Oak Family Practice**

Job title: Research Assistant

Accountable to: Practice Manager

Reports to: Senior Research Nurse

Hours: Part time - up to 20 hours per week

**Job summary**:
To work as part of a team in the Research Department within The Crouch Oak Family Practice. This involves supporting both the laboratory and administration activities of the Research Teamincluding assisting in the planning and conduct of clinical trials and ensuring regulatory compliance.

**Administrative Responsibilities**:

- Co-ordinate the effective running of the Research Department
- Provide general administrative support to the Research Team
- Generate invoices and monitor outstanding accounts
- Manage the administration processes and provide appropriate information to patients / relatives / carers involved in clinical studies
- Liaise effectively with all members of the internal team and external agencies
- Act as the key point of contact for first line enquiries
- Ensure the accurate and consistent documentation of patient data as required
- Ensure all filing and archiving systems are maintained
- Co-ordinate the stock management system for all stationary and clinical consumables.
- Co-ordinate and participate in Research meetings as required and accurately record the minutes

**Laboratory Responsibilities**:

- Laboratory processing and dispatch of biological samples
- Ordering and monitoring of sponsor provided laboratory kits and equipment and maintaining accurate records
- Checking in, performing receipt of, and completing drug accountability logs
- Act as a chaperone for patients as required
- Maintaining appropriate equipment calibration and temperature monitoring logs
- Cleaning, monitoring and tidying equipment as directed and reporting all associated problems/malfunctions
- Ensure the safe disposal of used equipment and clinical waste

**Professional**:

- Complete annual ICH GCP training and any other training required by the study Sponsors
- Act in accordance with Practice policies and procedures
- Attend all mandatory training

**Communication**:
The post holder should recognise the importance of effective communication within the team and will strive to communicated effectively with other team members, communicate effectively with patients and carers and recognise people’s needs for alternative methods of communication and respond accordingly.

**Confidentiality**:
The post holder is required to comply with The Data Protection Act 1998. He/she must not, without prior permission, disclose any information regarding patients or staff. In instances where it is known that a member of staff has communicated information to unauthorised persons, that staff member will be liable to dismissal. No confidential information may be read, discussed, disclosed or passed on unless it is necessary in the pursuance of the legitimate duties of the role.
