**Job Title: Apprentice Floor Layer**

**What you will do in your role**:
As an apprentice floor layer specialising in both têxtile and resilient flooring, you would be expected to perform a variety of tasks related to the installation, repair, and maintenance of these types of flooring materials. Here are some of the typical duties you might be responsible for:

- **Preparation of Subfloors**: Before installing new flooring, you would need to prepare the subfloor properly. This might involve cleaning, leveling, and priming the surface to ensure a smooth and even base for the flooring material.
- **Measurement and Cutting**: Accurate measurement and cutting of flooring materials are essential for a professional finish. You would need to measure the space carefully and cut the flooring material to fit, taking into account any obstacles or irregularities in the room.
- **Installation of Flooring**: Using the appropriate tools and techniques, you would install the carpet, vinyl, linoleum, or other resilient flooring materials according to industry standards and manufacturer specifications. This might involve gluing, stapling, or using other methods to secure the flooring in place.
- **Seaming and Welding**: In the case of carpet or vinyl flooring, you may need to seam or weld the edges together to create a seamless finish. This requires precision and attention to detail to ensure a strong and durable bond.
- **Underlayment Installation**: Depending on the type of flooring being installed, you may need to install underlayment or padding to provide cushioning, sound insulation, or moisture protection.
- **Finishing Touches**: Once the flooring is installed, you would be responsible for finishing touches such as trimming excess material, installing transition strips, and ensuring that the flooring is properly secured and aligned.
- **Repair and Maintenance**: As a floor layer, you may also be called upon to repair or replace damaged flooring or perform routine maintenance tasks such as cleaning and resealing resilient flooring.
- **Health and Safety**: Adhering to health and safety guidelines is paramount in any construction-related role. You would be expected to follow safety protocols to minimize the risk of accidents or injuries on the job site.

Throughout your apprenticeship, you would work under the supervision of experienced floor layers, gaining hands-on experience and gradually developing the skills and knowledge required to work independently in the field.
