**Purpose**
This role is essential to the development of the technical content in the NBS specification products and platforms.
The author will be an established construction professional who will use their industry experience and knowledge to review, research, develop and author electrical specification content and guidance for the NBS products for our UK and International customers. They will manage their content sets to ensure currency to industry standards and developments in technology as well as support the overall development of content to support the Uniclass Classification team.
They will support the integration of the manufacturer's products from within their construction specialism, providing the ability for them to be added to specifications.
They will represent the company and their profession at standards committees, trade and professional body meetings, research events, on the company website and with wider industry published content. They will be seen by NBS as an internal specialist in their profession and the point of reference for the wider company to learn from their industry knowledge and experience.
**Key Responsibilities**
**Authoring**
- Review existing authored specification content and update or restructure content to ensure that it reflects changes in standards, building codes, industry practice, and technologies for the UK and Middle East.
- Ensure feedback from customers is considered and assessed to support or influence the changes and development to specification content.
- Work with the wider business and product management teams to support customer engagement in large-scale changes or developments to specification content.
- Research technical issues and developments, liaising as necessary with standards, regulations, and other publishers, professional associations, research organizations, trade organizations, manufacturers, consultants, and subscribers.
- Using digital tools to plan and forecast content updates.
- Update and develop content to meet technical team KPIs.
- Collaborate with members of the technical team to integrate and coordinate technical specifications, and manufacturer material.
- Work with manufacturer information teams to ensure consistency of information and terminology.
- Support the Manufacturer's information teams with customer queries, mapping products to specification content, and authoring content to support manufacturers.
- Align specification content with Uniclass.
- Work with the Uniclass team in identifying new classification codes.
- Consult with Global specification content teams to ensure consistency in content.
- Support the research and development of new specification content sets as required in accordance with the company strategy.
- Maintain knowledge and technical awareness through continuing professional development and disseminate this information throughout the Technical Team and wider business where applicable.
- Provide content for Articles on the company website.
- Write sample specifications for use by the Customer Engagement /Training Teams.
- Peer-review work by other technical authors as required.
**Support**
- Contribute to marketing and business development activities, such as newsletters, websites, blogs, and NBS Events where required.
- Contribute to training and education activities, such as seminars and presentations.
- Provide technical support to subscribers, manufacturers, and internal teams.
- Represent NBS at internal and external meetings and events.
- Share industry knowledge and best practices with the wider business.
- Work with other departments to innovate and improve internal processes and procedures where possible.
- Contribute to the development of new products and the ongoing development of existing products.
- Have direct involvement in Subscriber and Man Ops queries.
- Generate new content ideas.
- Generate new software ideas.
- Testing and feedback of company software and processes.
- Undertake content driven presentations both internally and externally.
- Take part in content driven working groups.
- Author external articles for and / or in partnership with external bodies.
- The job holder may also be asked to undertake other duties outside of this job description that is commensurate with their skills and experience, including tasks delegated by the Head of the Technical Content and other management staff.
**Technical/Job Skills, Qualifications & Experience**
- Degree in a construction-related, Electrically biased discipline.
- Comprehensive construction project experience in the UK and internationally.
- Experience in writing construction industry documentation.
- Knowledge and experience in writing and managing project specifications.
- Understanding of prescriptive and performance specifications for a variety of project types.
- Knowledge and understanding of industry Standards and Building regulations for UK and Middle East.
