Postgraduate Research Officer

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated individual to join an experienced and lively team in the Education Office in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering. The Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering is a leading department among the UK Universities with a reputation for excellence in both teaching and research. The department is part of the Faculty of Engineering and consists of approximately 750 undergraduates, 180 MSc students, 260 postgraduate research students and 200 staff.
**Duties and responsibilities**:
The Postgraduate Research Officer (PGR Officer) will pro-actively provide a high-quality postgraduate service to academic staff and post-graduate students and prospective students in the department. The PGR Officer is the focal point for the management of the postgraduate research administration in the department.
The post holder will support academic staff acting as a key and pivotal contact and source of information for PGR students within the department including acting as a conduit between the Department, Registry and the Finance Team. The PGR Officer will advise the Director of Postgraduate Studies and Education Office Manager on the current and future PGR portfolio and ensure the smooth and effective administration of all PGR activities.
**Essential requirements**:
- Educated to degree level or equivalent professional experience or substantial hands on experience in a similar or related role,
- Experience of taking the lead with a team of colleagues in a changing environment, including having proven ability in motivation and development
- Experience of managing complex budgets and the preparation of financial reports
- Experience and self-sufficiency in the use of Windows-based software and web-based information systems with advanced use of Excel and Sharepoint
- A working knowledge of higher education policies and processes and of current issues affecting the higher education sector
- Proven organisational skills and ability to plan ahead, set priorities (both own and other staff) and work to deadlines
- Ability to generate innovative ideas and solutions for process improvement
- Ability to prioritise and manage a high volume of work in order to meet deadlines
- Proven analytical and problem solving capability
- Proven communication and interpersonal skills with staff at all levels
- Ability to transfer skills and knowledge to colleagues effectively
- High degree of tact and diplomacy
- Ability to acquire new skills rapidly
- Excellent written and verbal skills
- The ability to utilise a network of contacts to facilitate the effectiveness and efficiency of a quality operations service
- Flexible and adaptable to working in a changing environment
- Commitment to continuing professional development
**Further information**:
This is a Full Time and Open-ended role based at the South Kensington Campus.
This role will involve some out of hours activity support such as Open days.
