We are looking for a passionate Policy and Research Coordinator to join our busy Representation team and support our senior student representatives and staff members understand the changes in the Higher Education policy landscape. You will be helping us positively transform the lives of Imperial College students.

**Duties and responsibilities**:
**Research, Insight & Policy**
- Develop and deliver a high impact and coherent independent primary research programme each year for the Union, based on student leader priorities and the policy landscape, positioning the student leaders of the Union as experts on Imperial students and the student experience more generally.
- To maintain up to date knowledge of, and make colleagues aware of, policy and research being conducted across the higher education/students’ union sector and collaborate with other organisations to conduct joint policy ventures and/or research where appropriate.
- Provide key policy updates to relevant staff and student leaders in an accessible and understandable way by convening briefing meetings and providing regular written briefing notes and assisting senior student representatives in consulting students on these updates.
- To develop and maintain policy and HE research resources for elected representatives.
- To support the Union and wider College community’s analysis of key and relevant datasets, including the National Student Survey (NSS), Postgraduate Taught Experience Survey, Postgraduate Research Experience Survey, and the Student Experience Survey.
- To produce training material, including presentations, handbooks, guides, publications and literature for both students and Union staff, following a clear brief from the Representation Manager.
- To support elected representatives to conduct their own research on topics pertaining to their manifestos or perceived student need.
- To work with Imperial College London to facilitate joint research where appropriate.
- To support administration of the Representation team including triaging shared mailboxes and welcoming sector visitors to the organisation.
General
- To attend and support regular meetings within the Union where necessary.
- To work with relevant student leaders and managers to deliver the Union’s strategic aims.
- Endeavour to empower students and support them in carrying out their duties as appropriate.
- To ensure that the Union’s Health and Safety Policy and appropriate Health and Safety legislation is always adhered to.
- To abide by the Union’s Constitution, policies and procedures and all relevant College policies and regulations.
- To contribute to the positive image of the Union with students, the College, and the local community.
- To undertake other reasonable tasks and responsibilities commensurate with the level and nature of the post, as required by the Representation Manager.
- To carry out the above duties at other sites of the College as necessary.

**Essential requirements**:

- Degree or equivalent
- Experience of developing written and oral briefings on existing and emerging policy areas
- Experience of supporting student/young leaders or volunteers
- Experience of conducting research using both qualitative and quantitative methods
- Experience of synthesizing information into accessible formats
- Experience of project planning, administration, delivery and evaluation
- Experience of building and maintaining relationships with stakeholders
- Understanding of the policies and issues affecting higher education and the student experience
- Understanding of best practice in developing new research
- Understanding of best practice for developing policy briefings (both written and verbal)
- Understanding of equality, diversity, and inclusion issues in practice
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, with the ability to relate to people at all levels
- Excellent administration and organisation abilities and the competence to balance competing priorities to meet deadlines
- Ability to work effectively on your own as well as in a team
- Ability to use own initiative to identify and solve challenges
- Ability to work in a fast-paced and changing environment with a flexible and adaptable approach to work
