Westminster, United Kingdom City of Westminster Council Full time

**About Us**:
**THE EXTRAORDINARY STORY OF GIRO’S PERSUASIVE POWERS**

The Environment, Climate and Public Protection team in Westminster City Council is a world of extraordinary stories. We love it when our work touches lives.

Take Stepping to the Beat, our 3k walk, jog or run for people with learning or physical disabilities or Autism, their families and carers. It’s a life-affirming, music-based event Coreen and Claudia are massively proud of - and they were keen for people to spread the word. So, imagine how thrilled they were when one of our residents, Giro, did just that. Advocating for people with disabilities at a planning meeting for transport in London, he was proudly wearing his event medal. And he decided to use it to encourage others. As he passed it around the room, Giro inspired lots more people with disabilities to get involved. Infectious enthusiasm goes a long way here.

Please view the extraordinary story of Giro’s Persuasive Powers **here**.

**The Role**:
As a Programme Officer working on our exciting ‘Active Travel’ initiative, you can make your own powerful contribution to Westminster’s residents by helping us pursue the immense benefits of dockless bikes and e-scooters (which are collectively known as ‘micromobility services’). We want to make our borough as green as possible, with an emphasis on easy transport measures that will make it even easier to get from A to B as quickly and safely as possible. We are therefore pursuing a range of walking, cycling and bus schemes, which collaboratively will help us deliver on these ideals.

Joining us in this 2-year fixed-term contract, you will therefore play a vital role in building bridges between rental micromobility providers and Transport for London (TfL) to help us manage the growing number of dedicated bays that are being implemented across our iconic neighbourhoods. As part of a small multidisciplinary team, you will contribute to delivering projects on time and within budget, by hitting the streets to conduct audits on how people are using these services and understanding both good and bad user experiences. With a focus on encouraging residents, commuters, local businesses and visitors to use these services, you will handle a range of correspondence duties (such as responding to Freedom of Information requests) and you will identify and report bays that are poorly used.

This is a great opportunity to drive improvements at the early stages of micromobility usage. We want you to get directly involved in embedding a service that Westminster’s communities will benefit from, so if you have identified bays that should be removed or relocated, or you think you have solutions to bays that have persistent problems, we want to hear your ideas As such, you will produce short reports and data dashboards, and you will be keen to join senior colleagues at meetings with micromobility operators, TfL and so forth. You will also have the chance to get involved in other cycling, walking and ‘Active Travel’ schemes, so every day will present you with a great deal of variety.

Please refer to the **Job Description** for more information.

**About You**:
This is a great opportunity for someone who is passionate about the huge benefits of cycling and walking, and wants to keep footways safe for pedestrians. We want you to help us grow the use of these micromobility services and make this a sustainable mode of transport, so to make the most of this opportunity, you will have fantastic strategic problem-solving skills and you will be capable of working on your own initiative. As you will be working directly with our residents, you will enjoy talking to people and representing their views, so you will have good verbal and written communication skills.

It would be ideal if you have experience of collaborating with the private and public sectors to improve services, so you will bring a customer-focus to every challenge.

If you have some experience of managing expenditure and working with budgets, that would be helpful, so you will also have a good degree of numeracy. This to participate under supervision of colleagues. A fair command of written English is also considered essential for the position.

**What We Offer**:
