The Content Team at BBC Children In Need works alongside broadcast partners to deliver a wide range of fundraising and impactful content including The Great Rickshaw Relay, The Surprise Squad for The One Show, Radio Two’s Scott TreadMills Challenge; Countryfile Rambles, Blue Peter Specials, The DIYSOS Big Build, Owains 24 hour Drumathon, Documentary specials, through to showcasing the work we do in grassroots communities throughout the Nations and Regions of the UK.

We’re undergoing a review of our Content Proposition to continue to ensure we remain relevant and contemporary and are able to successfully engage new opportune audiences alongside our core supporters. We are moving from being an organisation who shows up once a year in November to an organisation that is ‘always on’ and uses our unique platform to celebrate, champion and support children and young people all year round.

We’re looking for a creative, innovative and strategic thinker who will help develop, and deliver a content strategy that re-imagines our approach to creative storytelling across multiple platforms - both linear and digital. Reporting to the Director of Content, this role will be instrumental in working across the organisation to lead the charities editorial proposition, ensuring we drive consistent messages. awareness and understanding of the difference we make.

Main Responsibilities
The Head of Editorial will lead and inspire a team to develop and deliver content to underpin the long term strategy strategy for CIN, ensuring that it achieves the highest creative and editorial standards, delivers on time and on budget, with adherence to BBC and CIN guidelines.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Leadership of the charity's editorial proposition across BBC programming, ensuring we drive consistent messages and drive awareness and understanding of our work.
- Act as the Creative Lead for all CiN produced video content; driving editorial/journalistic rigour, creative storytelling and a focus on short form storytelling on digital platforms.
- Alongside the Head of Marketing & External Communications, drive the annual calendar of activity, utilising the assets of the BBC and our storytelling to drive fame, familiarity and feeling with opportunity audiences and where appropriate, drive social change.
- Commissioning short form video content on CIN channels, providing editorial briefs, compliance and editorial sign off.
- Lead the process of effective story gathering ensuring the charity has inspiring case studies to drive content across multiple platforms on a year round basis.
- To champion storytelling with broadcast partners and finding new angles of telling stories across different mediums whilst ensuring content reflects our diverse audiences and the voices of young people.
- Provide strategic, cross organisational leadership on all editorial matters and alongside leaders in the Content Team - communicating the vision, strategic direction and both short and long term objectives set by the Director of Content and Executive Team.
- Encourage a culture of common purpose, shared values, identity and commitment to collaborative working.
- Leading on adherence to Editorial Guidelines, Health & Safety & Welfare of CYP. Responsible for ensuring compliance and factual accuracy of CiN content.
- Developing new ways of working in collaboration with suppliers, partners and internal & external stakeholders
- Work with the Director of Content and the content leadership team in the development and implementation of a long term strategy with the BBC which engages our opportunity audiences and drives income and support.
- To support and deputise where appropriate for the Director of Content.

**Experience and skills required**:

- Demonstrable experience of holding a senior role leading editorial teams in either TV, Radio or Online.
- Experience of delivering short form video content on multiple platforms.
- An understanding of what makes compelling video content for social media platforms.
- Proven ability in developing creative ideas - that have translated to impactful content.
- Proven experience in working and influencing both internal and external stakeholders.
- Proven ability to make good editorial judgement calls, especially in relation to sensitive situations involving children and young people.
- Understanding of BBC Guidelines, Structures and Broadcast Industry trends.
