**The Role and Department**

The Computing and Information Services (CIS) has an annual operational budget in excess of £12m, multi-million pound programmes of change within year, and approximately 185 staff. The Senior Leadership Team report directly to the Chief Information Officer (CIO) with the following portfolios: Strategy and Change; Technical Services; Information Services, and Cyber Security. CIS work with departments across the university to provide academic, teaching and administrative services that underpin the day-to-day activities of the whole organisation. CIS is a friendly, but demanding department, where much is expected and can be achieved by competent, self-motivated individuals who are demonstrable in their teamwork ability. The department works in a hybrid capacity depending on the job role and individual personal requirements.

The key responsibility of this role is the operational leadership of service lifecycle management within the Information Services (IS) section of CIS, ensuring a strategic approach across the service lifecycle.

This will require:

- the existence of well defined IS service related roadmaps that align with, and support delivery of, the University’s Digital Strategy;
- the establishment and ongoing development of a Service Owner mindset across IS;
- a commitment to providing excellence across all aspects of IS service delivery;
- the establishment and championing of a continual service improvement ethos, so that IS services are regularly evaluated, with efficiencies and improvements made timely;
- the efficient and effective design and pro-active implementation of new processes, technology and capabilities;
- overseeing IS support processes and organise them so that they enhance customer satisfaction;
- the review of financial information and subsequent adjustment of IS budgets to promote and maximise cost savings;
- a pro-active and collaborative approach to managing relationships and agreements with external partners and vendors;
- the line management and professional development, of IS Service Owners and of IS Solutions Designers;
- maximising overall IS Service delivery for the University by pro-actively working with CIS resource managers and project managers, in order to anticipate and balance competing service demands
- evidence based decision making;
- working with leaders within CIS and the wider university, to undertake appropriate service capacity/demand planning
- working with IS resource managers, to support the development of staff related capabilities and in establishing succession planning and resource resilience
- the regular review of IS service risks and vulnerabilities, and implementation of timely mitigation activity
- ensure that IS services comply with DU regulations at all times, and are not in breach of appropriate legal obligations, such as GDPR

The post holder will work closely with the CIS Senior Leadership Team, operational teams within CIS, along with colleagues in Finance and Procurement, to control and manage expenditure within the budgetary processes of CIS and the wider University.
