The Department of Computer and Information Sciences (CIS) seeks to appoint a Lecturer in Information Retrieval. This post will be part of the SISRG (Strathclyde iSchool Research Group) research group. SISRG is an interdisciplinary information science research group, investigating information behaviour, digital cultural heritage, and information retrieval (IR). SISRG is one of the leading IR research groups internationally, traditionally the group has had a focus on user related research, but welcome research from the broad spectrum of IR research. Members publish at leading international venues e.g. SIGIR, WWW, CHIIR etc. and have a track record of attracting funding from a variety of sources e.g. UKRI, EU, industry etc. SISRG also contributes to a range of growing MSc programmes in our department providing expertise in data science, information retrieval and artificial intelligence.

We seek to recruit a highly motivated scholar who will contribute to the research, teaching, and administrative activities of the school. The successful applicant will have a PHD (or equivalent related to information retrieval or data science) and primary research interests and expertise in information retrieval and related topics. The appointee will be expected to teach on the Department’s masters programmes, with a particular focus on data science and information retrieval.

**Research Starter Grant**

The Faculty of Science offers a Research Starter Grant to all new full-time, non-professorial, academic staff within the Faculty. The Grant may be used for any purpose that assists staff to establish their Strathclyde research career and to assist in attracting additional funding for research from external sources. Any grant awarded will be to a maximum of £10,000, and the planned expenditure of the award is normally for a period of 18 months. Departments may, however, add to the value of this award.
