**The Role**:
We are on the lookout for a **Media and Communications Advisor** to join our team.
Providing a communications service to one of the largest police forces in the country, you’ll relish the opportunity to work in a fast-paced and diverse environment, never knowing what new challenges the next day will bring.
This is a real opportunity for you to help make a difference to the fantastic communities we serve through effective communications.
**What will I be doing?**
We are looking for a truly proactive multimedia advisor.
You will not only be responding to media enquiries but also producing engaging content for the media, our website and social channels - knowing how best to use these platforms to optimise reach.
You will also have the confidence and leadership skills to advise and influence senior officers about the best course of action when dealing with communications activities.
Whether it’s supporting an investigation or producing creative content - you will be on the front-line maintaining and enhancing public confidence in Northumbria Police.

**What do I need?**
- Excellent written, oral, presentational and interpersonal skills
- Experience in media and communications activity
- Experience of consulting and advising senior members of staff
- Working understanding or knowledge of media law
- A strong working knowledge and understanding of platforms for external engagement, including social networking systems, and the ability to adapt materials for each
- Be able to produce, creative and engaging content for a range of channels, including digital
- Deliver communication plans to timescales
- Be able to provide accurate content that is of high quality and meets the needs of the Force while working in a fast-paced environment
- To work collaboratively and share ideas to support effective external communications
**Desirable skills**
- Relevant degree or national qualification
- Knowledge of policing and current related issues
- Ability to edit video content
- Experience in organising and facilitating media interviews
- Proven experience of external stakeholder relationships
- Experience of advising and influencing senior level managers
- Experience of supporting people before and during media interviews and providing constructive feedback following

**Vetting Level - Recruitment Vetting (RV)**
Applicants must be a resident of the UK for a minimum period of 3 years to ensure vetting checks can be successfully performed. A job offer will be dependent upon vetting clearance, medical information and references.
