The Haematology and Blood Transfusion departments at Nottingham University Hospitals provide a diagnostic and therapeutic service, receiving and handling biological samples for patients across Nottingham. This service operates 24 hours per day, every day of the year, providing critical patient care across the Trust and the whole of Nottingham.

We are sub-specialities of Clinical Pathology and hold UKAS ISO 15189 accreditation. We are looking to recruit medical laboratory assistants (MLAs) to support these services.

Your normal working hours will be 09.00-17.30 Monday to Friday, our departments are open 24/7 and extended working days are an option. Applications from hardworking, enthusiastic individuals with a keen eye for detail are welcomed. This is a rotational post for haematology and blood transfusion including antenatal reception.

The main duties of the role are to perform pre-analytical and processing duties including the receipt, barcode labelling and preparation of blood samples for analysis. Accurate entry of patient demographics into the laboratory software. Loading of samples on to laboratory equipment. Performing equipment checks such as fridge temperature monitoring, general housekeeping duties including maintaining stock levels, cleaning and waste disposal.

Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust is a large, busy teaching hospital with a wide range of clinical specialties including Adult and Paediatric Haematological Malignancies, Haemophilia and Thrombosis, Haemoglobinopathies, as well as routine screening. The Queens Medical Centre Campus is the regional Trauma Centre for the Trent region.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post holder will provide support to the scientific and medical staff within the department. The main duties of the role are to:
Perform sample reception and processing duties including the receipt, barcode labelling and preparation of samples for analysis, loading of samples onto analysers or other laboratory equipment and sample archiving

Perform clerical tasks including data input of patient demographics and test request information

Perform general housekeeping duties including maintaining stock levels, general cleaning and waste disposal

Perform general equipment checks such as temperature monitoring

***The post holder will be required to work at both City and QMC Campus; the role covers both sites

**Salary**: The quoted salary will be on a pro rata basis for part time workers.
