This is a unique and exciting opportunity to join a growing team in Research and Innovation at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust.

The laboratory team supports the delivery of early phase trials across the Trust. NUH is committed to increasing our portfolio of early phase experimental research allowing patients to access cutting edge treatments through clinical trials.

The team will be supporting delivery of clinical trials across the Trust.

The Clinical Research Laboratory Assistant will work closely with various teams of research nurses and practitioners. The role will include working within the Clinical Research Facility (CRF) laboratory processing samples for studies on the CRF portfolio. The post holder will work closely with the Laboratory Manager to ensure that laboratory procedures are performed correctly ensuring safety of all staff utilising the laboratory.

Supporting all of our research is the NIHR Nottingham Clinical Research Facility which provides the infrastructure, skills and knowledge essential to the delivery of high quality experimental medicine research for adults and children. Our expertise and resources are at the forefront of COVID-19 research into effective treatments and vaccines, as well as contributing to the world’s understanding of Coronavirus.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post holder will provide laboratory support for the wider Research & Innovation team.

The main duties of the role are to:
Undertake laboratory-based work including the analysis of samples using various technologies.

Perform sample reception and processing duties including the receipt, barcode labelling and preparation of samples for analysis, loading of samples onto analysers or other laboratory equipment and sample archiving.

Perform clerical tasks including data input of patient demographics and test request information.

Perform general housekeeping duties including maintaining stock levels, general cleaning and waste disposal.

The post holder may be required to work at QMC campus and/or City campus of Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust.
