Domestic Abuse Specialist

We are looking to recruit a part time Domestic Abuse Specialist in North Northants to deliver a comprehensive support service to vulnerable adults and children to be based in designated localities, initially on a year's contract. This is a dual role, partly dedicated to working with families admitted to our male refuge and partly working with families within the community who have been impacted by domestic abuse.
- Experience of working in a supportive role with vulnerable families and/or children, or equivalent
- Clear understanding and awareness of domestic abuse and the impact on victims
- Excellent communication and report writing skills
- Proficient IT skills
- Current driving licence and access to vehicle.

**Purpose of Post**:

- To ensure a comprehensive support service is provided to all clients and their children who require safe supported refuge accommodation.
- To ensure appropriate safety measures and external referrals are made when families are declined from NDAS services
- To work in partnership with NDAS’s Children’s Domestic Abuse Specialists (CDAS) in their role to ensure a service is delivered to both parent and child/children to recognise and address issues that have been created by domestic abuse
- To be responsible for delivering all individual support plans to all service users enabling them to make informed decisions about their future through a key work system
- To be responsible for the day-to-day effective management of the refuge including identifying and reporting any safeguarding issues to senior management and agencies.
- To undertake telephone assessments of applicants for refuge accommodation, within 24 hours of receiving the referral (specific to each refuge)
- To represent NDAS and attend Multi Agency meetings and undertake appropriate actions with clients referred through this route.
- To continually risk assess and ensure high risk cases are referred to MARAC following the correct procedures.
- To provide an advice and support service in locality
- To deliver group work programmes to identified individuals
- To support Student Social Workers and Volunteers based in refuge

Main areas of responsibility:
Service Users
- Refuge
- On admission ensure service users are familiarised with the refuge, providing practical and emotional support, and ensuring all their basic needs are met.
- Ensure new service users understand the requirements of the Licence Agreement, House Rules and their obligations whilst in refuge
- To issue warning & eviction notices in accordance with NDAS’s procedures.
- To complete Outcome Star within 3-4 weeks of the resident being in the refuge.
- To attend a planning meeting with NDAS Children’s Worker & NDAS Team Leader to ensure the family receive a seamless service
- To support children domestic abuse specialists when parenting assessments.
- Ensure all departure procedures are complied with when move-on accommodation is identified for service users.
- Ensure all service users are supported with budgeting including prompt payment of service charge.
- Facilitate Resident House meetings in refuge on a fortnightly basis and ensure notes of the meeting are shared as appropriate.
- Ensure equal opportunities for all service users are complied with within the refuge, challenging any unacceptable behaviour that may cause offence or distress to other service users.
- Follow safeguarding procedures if there is a particular concern about a service user’s behaviour, which may impact upon the service user, or others.
- To provide service users support with moving out of refuge, establishing new accommodation - and provide resettlement service if required.
- Ensure the correct safeguarding procedures are followed, if a resident leaves refuge and is deemed to be high risk - i.e. contacting the appropriate professionals from that area to create a safety plan.

- Facilitate group-work for adults to give them the opportunity to understand the effects of domestic abuse.

- Ensure equal opportunities are given to all persons who require information or support in relation to domestic abuse.
- Work with existing services, co-locating across communities, adding value to agencies by providing support to anyone with identified issues relating to domestic abuse.
- Establish links with all agencies where victims may present, set up specific drop-in services, space to work with individual clients across localities
- Be responsible for raising awareness of domestic abuse within the locality, providing appropriate information about the organisation at displays and events involving the public and conferences when required.
