Operating as part of the Group Communications team, the Group communications and marketing manager (internal) will support the planning and delivery of internal communications requirements for the Chief People Office and the wider Group HR function (HR SharedServices, Reward and Benefits, Talent and Organisational Design, Diversity and Inclusion and Recruitment).
You will work both independently and directly with the Corporate Affairs Director and Group Communications and Marketing team to provide strategic guidance to the Group HR functional plan and deliver a communications plan and calendar of activity.
You will work with the wider communications and marketing team to support the company-wide integration of the communications and marketing strategy, considering the most effective way(s) to best engage with Kier colleagues and ensuring that we measure the effectivenessof what we do.
Key Tasks
- Provide strategic and tactical guidance to the Chief People Officer and other members of the HR Senior Leadership team to create and deliver effective and engaging internal communications which support the People strategy and improve employee engagement.
- Provide effective planning of the launch and embedding of HR and People initiatives including managing a calendar of activity that is coordinated with the Group's overall corporate communications calendar.
- Provide counsel and support for the Chief People Officer's communications and engagement activity including support for internal and external keynote speeches, media appearances and internal and external social media activity.
- Support the event management for key activities such as employee conferences and employee awards throughout the year.
- Measure the effectiveness of all internal communications activity for HR.
- Support on other ad hoc communications programmes as directed by the Head of Internal Communications and Events.
- Work closely with others in the Group communications and marketing team to create cross functional approaches that raise better awareness and meet business targets.
- Work collaboratively as part of the wider communications team.
- Build strong relationships with key stakeholders across HR and the wider Kier Group; define their communication requirements and provide them with strategic advice and counsel.
- Work closely with colleagues in HR and Group to ensure that no communications conflict - messaging, timing and audience.
- Brief and manage supplier and agency relationships as appropriate.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues across all areas of the business to develop and deliver effective communications.
- Work collaboratively with the wider communications community to help create a highly effective internal communications function, role modelling one team behaviours and fostering a positive working environment.
- Share best practice and learning with colleagues and seek continuous improvement

Essentials
- Exceptional planning and organisational skills and ability to project manage multiple initiatives simultaneously & work under pressure.
- Exceptional verbal, writing and editing skills and in particular the ability to write in different styles to reflect the nature of the audience, stakeholder and message.
- Proven experience in dealing with and influencing business leaders, and confident at networking and building strong relationships with colleagues and stakeholders at all levels.
- Good IT proficiency including Powerpoint and internal communications platforms
- Excellent event management skills
- Excellent communication, engagement and stakeholder management skills.
