**Principal Electoral Officer - Cornwall Council**

Cornwall Council are looking for a self-motivated and skilled Principal Electoral Officer to join our Elections team. As an integral member of the team that organises and administers all elections, referendums and registration, you will be contributing to the lives of Cornwall residents by ensuring our community’s participation in the democratic process. The Council offers flexible hybrid working, meaning the successful applicant can work from home, the Head Office in Truro on a rota basis, or occasionally in one of our outreach offices - all options can be discussed at interview.

We are a large county, and the Elections Team work with the Returning Officer and other Council teams in running major elections as well as organising many by-elections and neighbourhood planning referendums.

The role involves being a Deputy Returning Officer, Deputy Electoral Registration Officer and line-managing two of the four Electoral Officers within our team of 13 people. You will be involved in a varied number of projects including assisting the Electoral Services Manager in the departmental budgets and recharges, writing Committee Reports and attending Committee Meetings and be involved in reviews such as the Polling District, Places and Station review, Community Governance Reviews etc.

Electoral Registration in Cornwall is varied and complex, with many second and holiday homes, a university town and a number of Ministry of Defense bases.

Ideally, you will have achieved a professional qualification at Association of Electoral Administrator Certificate level, have a good understanding of current best practice within the election world and be able to perform to a high standard and with a high attention to detail.
