West Berkshire Council is looking for a passionate and skilled Homelessness Prevention & Relief Officer to join our Housing Service.

As a Homelessness Prevention & Relief Officer, you will be responsible for providing practical advice, assistance, and support to individuals and families facing homelessness. You will work closely with your colleagues in the team to provide a statutory front-line housing service, as well as liaising with private and social landlords, to deliver effective housing solutions, develop innovative strategies, and implement initiatives to prevent homelessness.

Key Responsibilities:

- Conduct thorough assessments of clients' circumstances, identifying their housing needs and potential risks of homelessness
- Offer practical advice, signposting, and support to help clients sustain their current accommodation or find suitable alternatives
- Collaborate with partner agencies to develop and implement effective homelessness prevention and relief strategies
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date case records within established systems
- Provide advocacy and support to clients in accessing relevant services and resources

Skills and Attributes:

- Experience working within a frontline housing/homelessness prevention role or a related field
- Knowledge of housing legislation, welfare benefits, and relevant support services
- Strong communication skills and the ability to engage effectively with a diverse range of individuals
- Excellent assessment and problem-solving abilities, with a compassionate and empathetic approach
- Strong organisation and time-management skills, with the ability to manage a varied caseload
- Proficient IT skills, including the use of case management systems and Microsoft Office
