**The Post**
The Head of Student Conduct and Casework post is a new role within Academic Registry and provides leadership to the Student Conduct and Casework function of the team. Student Conduct and Casework is responsible for the management, delivery and development of the University’s arrangements, policies and procedures relevant to student conduct and casework including student discipline, complaints handling, academic appeals, and fitness to study.

The team supports the Academic Registrar and works in conjunction with the rest of the Academic Registry team in the successful delivery of Academic Registry objectives. The team also works collaboratively with the University’s Faculties, Divisions, and Professional Services to achieve institutional objectives.

The Head of Student Conduct and Casework is part of Academic Registry’s senior leadership group and is responsible for the management, development and delivery of the University's student conduct and casework arrangements, and provides leadership to the Student Conduct and Casework team. As such, the post-holder leads the implementation of policy, procedure and systems relevant to the area, and is responsible for working with a collaborative approach to achieve a coherent institutional approach, and for implementing strategies and plans for development to optimise service excellence and efficiency in a fast-developing area of high-risk and high-volume activity.

**Description of Duties**
- Lead the effective delivery of processes, systems and practices related to the University’s policies, procedures and arrangements for student conduct and casework, such as student discipline, complaints handling, academic appeals and fitness to study
- Ensure the management of cases facilitates excellent service delivery, based on robust considerations and outcomes, timeliness, effective assessment of risk, and support for all students and for staff
- Ensure that confidentiality is consistently adhered to within the function’s operations and delivery and that approaches to information sharing are considered, effectively support the robust operation of procedures and are in line with legal parameters
- Ensure that risk monitoring, assessment and mitigation are delivered in line with operating requirements and are effective in line with the key importance of risk management within the function
- Contribute robust investigation and decision-making input as required in line with the student conduct and casework procedures
- Ensure a consistent understanding across the team of boundaries of procedure and responsibility, facilitating strict adherence to the provisions of each procedure and avoiding any conflict of interest
- Lead, develop and ensure delivery of strategic initiatives for the enhancement of services. Within this, conduct ongoing needs assessment and gap analysis to identify required or beneficial change
- Ensure that effective training is consistently provided and undertaken by all relevant members of Academic Registry staff, and other staff members involved in the delivery of student conduct and casework procedures, including senior colleagues
- Ensure that statutory and internal reporting relevant to the function is provided in effective formats in line with required timelines
- Promote University-wide understanding of student conduct and casework procedures to support effective institutional adherence to and robustness of the procedures
- Provide strong and effective leadership and management skills to set high standards, and develop, motivate and empower the staff team to deliver these standards, and continuous enhancement
- Establish effective internal partnerships and collaborations across the University, and an external network that ensures up to date awareness of sector developments, all relevant regulatory and best practice requirements, and effective horizon-scanning
- Work collaboratively with colleagues across Academic Registry to ensure effective end-to-end operations and processes and that activity is joined-up and focussed on the achievement of institutional outcomes and the student experience
- As required, deputise for or represent the Academic Registrar / Academic Registry in matters relevant to the area of responsibility
- Act as a consistently professional and solution-focused ambassador for Academic Registry as a whole
- Contribute to planning and development, and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement within the Academic Registry team
- Undertake any other duties as may be required, in line with the grade and nature of the role, as directed by the Academic Registrar
