**JERSEY PARISH**

**FINANCE & PROPERTY OFFICER**

**Working hours: Part time 30 hours per week with some flexibility for occasional evening work for meetings**

**Salary: £20-£22 per hour depending on qualifications and experience**

Jersey parish have a vacancy for a part time Finance & Property Officer to assist the Parish Priest in the organisation of the Parish by undertaking various aspects of finance and property administration and co-ordination in the Parish Office and the wider area of the Parish.

Based in parish offices at 19 Val Plaisant, St Helier, you will be responsible for the day-to-day administration of the Parish’s finances, property administration and hall hiring management reporting to the Parish Priest.

You will work closely with the parish clergy, secretary, and facilities manager to ensure that invoices are paid promptly, income is received, tax and charity returns are filed.

You will prepare financial reports for (among others) the Diocese, the Parish Priest and the Parish Finance Committee.

**Experience and qualifications required for the role**:

- Experienced Administrator with excellent administration, time management and prioritisation skills
- People management skills
- Computer literate, skilled in word processing, desktop publishing, spreadsheets and database management as well as use of internet
- Practical experience of bookkeeping. A bookkeeping qualification is not required but relevant experience is essential.
- Experience of accounting software
- Approachable style with strong written and verbal communication skills.

**Overview of the Catholic Church in Jersey**

The Catholic Church in Jersey is a single island-wide parish encompassing seven churches.

The parish clergy comprises the Parish Priest, an assistant priest and four deacons. The parish employs a full-time secretary and a full-time facilities manager. The Parish Priest is responsible for the temporal affairs of the parish and is assisted in its financial management by an advisory finance committee whose members are drawn from the parish congregation.

The Catholic Church in Jersey is part of the Catholic Diocese of Portsmouth and is a Jersey Registered Charity, No. 381.

It is not a requirement for the post holder to be a member of the Catholic Church, but it is essential to have sympathy with the aims of the Church.

**Job Summary**

Based in parish offices at 19 Val Plaisant, St Helier, you will be responsible for the day-to-day administration of the Parish’s finances including property administration. You will report to the Parish Priest.

**Financial Administration - Principal responsibilities**
- To keep accurate, detailed accounting records in line with Diocesan procedures and bookkeeping systems, which must be sufficient to show and explain the parish’s financial transactions.
- To maintain an efficient filing system in paper and electronic formats in line with Diocesan Operating Procedures and local regulation
- To perform monthly bank reconciliations.
- To manage the parish’s credit cards.
- To ensure that property rental income is received and in accordance with the relevant lease agreements.
- To ensure that income from the renting of church parking spaces is received and recorded.
- To ensure that income from baptisms, weddings, funerals, and other sacraments is received and recorded.
- To liaise with the money counters in respect of weekly cash collections.
- To record periodic planned donations from parishioners and administer reclaims of income tax under Jersey’s Deed of Covenant Scheme.
