The Vales ward at Discovery House are searching for a dynamic and experienced clinical lead who demonstrates inclusive leadership, clinical knowledge / skills and a drive to be innovative on approaches to clinical practice.

The successful applicant should be able to promote a hope and recovery-based approach to care and lead an inpatient team to deliver a gold standard service.

The Vales is a 15 bedded high dependency rehabilitation ward for females 18 years and above. Many service users require care for complex trauma, severe and enduring mental health and may have a forensic history. This new position plays a pivotal role in supporting individuals to achieve their identified goals using a person-centred recovery-based approach, promoting social inclusion and transition into the community. The successful applicant will work collaboratively with the ward manager whilst demonstrating the Trust values in their role modelling and approach.

If you have strong clinical skills and experience and able to work collaboratively with the team/ patients and carers as well as a drive to deliver recovery focussed high quality care / supporting service development, then this role is for you.

The post provides clinical oversite on the ward, improves clinical outcomes for patients and provides support to ward managers. Band 7 clinical lead responsibilities include:
Management of complex safeguarding issues with direction from the trusts safeguarding team.

Role modelling for the team

Implementation of learning from serious investigation.

Deputise for Ward Manager in their absence.

To ensure that services are delivered to maximise patient safety.

Contribute to performance improvement such as managerial & clinical supervision.

Implementation of new working practices to improve patient outcomes.

Review current practices, support innovations, be solution focussed

Leading and supporting the team with complex cases

To drive changes within services that benefit patients, carers and/or staff

To manage and lead the team in the clinical delivery care.

The hours would be management days and clinical shifts including nights.

Demonstrate the ability to effectively influence the clinical dimensions of service development.

Use specialist knowledge to deal effectively with newly encountered clinical situations.

Work with individuals to assess their mental health, recognise mental illness and identify their related needs and circumstances; and enable them to understand, manage and where appropriate change their behaviour by linking them with evidence based treatment pathways.

Plan, implement, review, improve interventions and treatment pathways to meet people’s identified needs and manage their inherent risk with comprehensive Clinical Risk Formulation and care planning

To assess carers’ and families needs and develop, implement and review programmes of support for carers and families.

Protect people from abuse, neglect and harm.

To work collaboratively and promote effective working relationships with members of the multi-disciplinary team and community teams, ensuring appropriate clinical decision-making, with other professionals and agencies.

To support transitions of young people to adult services.

To adhere to N.M.C. or other professional codes of conduct and ethics, plus associated legislation.

To develop clinical practice having due regard tor the NICE Guidelines in respect of treatment for mental health disorders in children and adolescents.
