**Safeguarding and Pupil Wellbeing Officer**

**35 hours per week for 36 weeks per year (term-time, plus 2 weeks in School holidays)**

**Salary £32 000 pa**

We are seeking to appoint a full-time Safeguarding and Pupil Wellbeing Officer to join our team at Worth School. This role is predominantly term-time based, with some additional weeks worked in the School holidays.

The Safeguarding and Pupil Wellbeing Officer will support the delivery of high-quality pastoral care in the School, liaising with and working alongside the relevant pastoral staff including House staff, the Head of PSHE, the Medical Department and the School Counsellor. The successful applicant will act as the First Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead and work closely with the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) and Safeguarding Management Team, deputising for the DSL as and when required.

As the Safeguarding and Pupil Wellbeing Officer, your responsibilities would include:

- Assisting with all operational aspects of safeguarding in the School
- As part of the Pastoral Team, to deliver on the pastoral objectives within the School Development Plan
- To share in the corporate responsibility for the wellbeing and discipline of the pupils attending the School and to promote a culture of high-quality safeguarding, and a high regard for personal safety and wellbeing for all students
- To coordinate all aspects of safeguarding in the School including taking referrals from staff and pupils
- As First Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead, supporting and deputising for the DSL when required on all matters relating to the welfare of our pupils
- To work alongside the DSL and Pastoral Team to actively co-ordinate and promote a whole-school approach towards mental health and wellbeing.
- To liaise with the Head of PSHE to ensure pupil emotional wellbeing and mental health needs are being met through a successful PSHE programme

What we are looking for:

- Relevant professional experience of safeguarding (essential)
- Strong understanding of safeguarding principles and practices, as well as child protection and safeguarding legislation and guidance (essential)
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written (essential)
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy (essential)
- Professional safeguarding qualifications and training (desirable)
- Experience of working as a Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL), Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead (DDSL) or in a similar role (desirable)
- Experience within a PSHE role (desirable)
- Understanding of KCSIE and ISI regulations (desirable)
- Previous experience working in a school environment or a public service (social services, police, etc.) safeguarding setting (desirable)
