We are the Government’s Adviser for the natural environment, playing a vital role in delivering the Government’s 25 Year Environment Plan, an ambitious vision which brings new opportunities to protect and enhance and to achieve real outcomes for the environment.

This is a role in Natural England to ensure alignment and consistency across the Defra group to act as a Grants advocate supporting a Senior Advisor who has responsibility for promoting grants best practice within NE and supporting the Senior Functional Lead in Defra and the Single Grants Champion as part of a network. To support the wider Procurement Intelligent Customer function the role will also oversee work to support National Corporate contracts.

Working in the Procurement Intelligent Customer Function you will support Natural England’s vision of a ‘Thriving nature for people and planet’. We work with a wide range of partners, stakeholders and customers on a huge range of projects, from influencing construction, advising farmers and landowners how they can manage their land in a sustainable way for the benefit of the environment, gathering and analysing environmental data, and carrying out vital statutory duties. Across the country, we’re helping nature to support people and our planet.

Job description

The role is split between Grants, National contracts and Communications.

The Grants Standard Advocates have a good understanding of grant management within their organisation*. They will create and maintain links across Natural England, to enable them to reach out to the right contacts, sharing key messages and best practice. They act as key points of contact for grants related matters and act as a key link between Natural England and the central Grants Hub. Working with the Principal Specialist, they will share the representation on the governance committees in Defra.

The National Contracts work will involve being a customer link with the Contracting Authority. In most cases this is with Defra Group Commercial - Corporate Services Team, but other Defra Family organisation are also the lead for some of our corporate contracts. The Corporate Contracts include Travel, Corporate Charge cards (GPC) and mobile phone contracts. The role ensures that there is an organisation owner and point of contact for internal customers and supplier/contracting authority, The role will be responsible for ensuring we meet our contractual responsibilities regarding invoicing/data and customer feedback on service provision.

- Supporting the Senior Advisor in all Grants functions and being able answer queries in relations to Grants
- Take a proactive role in initiating activity based on direction from the Defra Grants Hub and where appropriate, support with training delivery.
- Act as a conduit between Natural England and the Grants Hub, cascading key messages, feeding back, providing recommendations for continuous improvement and understanding grants guidance, resources and training available and sharing these with your area.
