Trainee Advanced Critical Care Practitioner

The trainee Advanced Critical Care Practitioner (ACCP) will, by the end of the training period:
- Have an advanced knowledge in critical care medicine
- Function as a competent clinical practitioner assessing and managing critically ill patients and their families as an integral part of the Critical Care team
- Work as part of the ICU Medical Team to provide cover for critically ill patients as part of the resident rota for critical care
- Undertake transfers of critically ill patients between hospital departments for diagnostic and treatment purposes
- Initiate and participate in audit and research projects relevant to critical care
- Have successfully completed the program involving university-based academic modules and workplace-based clinical competencies and training requirements in line with The Faculty of Intensive Care Medicine Curriculum.
- Will be accountable for his/her actions and act in accordance with NMC Code of Professional Conduct.
- Will act in accordance with Local, Hospital and Statutory Guidelines & Policies including Health and Safety initiatives.
Established in 2013 Hampshire Hospitals successful ACCP training programme follows the
Faculty of Intensive Care Medicine (FICM) Curriculum for Training for Advanced Critical
Care Practitioners. This intensive two year programme includes completion of a PGDip at
The University of Southampton alongside the clinical training programme based at BNH and
RHCH.

- First level Registered Nurse or HCPC Registered Professional (Eligible to undertake
independent prescribing qualification).
- Post Registration Critical Care Qualification.
- Excellent communication skills.

The training programme involves a combination of workplace-based learning of clinical skills, attitudes and knowledge and university-based academic modules at the University of Southampton.
