Job Introduction
Do you want to make a difference to children and young people by helping them to access their education?

Do you have a passion for supporting children, young people and their families?

We are seeking a Behaviour & Attendance Support Practitioner to join the Education Support, Behaviour & Attendance (ESBAS) team, part of the innovative Inclusion, Special Educational Needs and Disability Service (ISEND). The successful applicant will have the opportunity to work directly with children, their families and schools to support the national priorities of improving school attendance and reducing school suspensions.

Your primary focus will be to work directly with individual children, their families and schools to support them to engage positively in education within the legislative framework that underpins the work of ESBAS.

As part of an existing team of experienced staff, you will work alongside professionals to draw up and deliver bespoke packages of support. This will involve mentoring the pupil, as well as working with the family and school to establish positive, effective working relationships, which will lead to improved educational outcomes.

You will have the opportunity to learn about East Sussex’s Therapeutic Thinking approach to inclusion, which focuses on how to support all children and young people, particularly in terms of their emotional wellbeing and mental health. You will use this approach and the tools within it to support children and young people at risk of suspensions and low school attendance.

We are looking for a skilled practitioner with a genuine interest in this area, who is experienced in working within an educational setting to support positive behaviour, attendance and engagement with learning. You will have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to engage with children, young people, families and school staff. Further to this, you will have demonstrable skills in:

- Assessing individual needs and monitoring progress against desired outcomes
- Working within the legislative framework that underpins the work of the Attendance and Reintegration/Behaviour Support Service
- Identifying work priorities and managing your own workload to meet deadlines
- Communicating complex information clearly and confidently, orally and in writing, to a range of audiences

We currently have 3 posts available based at County Hall, Lewes and 2 posts based at St Mark’s House, Eastbourne. There is flexibility for some home working as part of a hybrid working model. You will work as part of an existing team and be supported through regular supervisions, case discussions and peer support.

In addition to opportunities to grow your career within our experienced team, we offer a diverse range of benefits to help and support you during your employment, which include:

- Opportunities for flexi-time working
- 42 week term time only contract would be considered
- Regular CPD opportunities

- Access to financial wellbeing resources and products
- A wide selection of discounts with high street retailers, holiday companies and more
- Travel expenses paid from allocated base
- Options for lease car scheme

- The choice to be a member of the attractive Local Government Pension Scheme
