**General information about the department**:
The Prevention and Education Department is at the forefront of our proactive work. We prevent incidents from occurring through education, advice and intervention; using an intelligence-led approach to deliver activities targeting those most at risk. We also utilise data and local intelligence to understand the needs of our communities. Our approach to prevention aims to make people safer in their homes, whilst at work, in public places, during leisure time and when visiting our area.

**About the role**

We are looking to recruit a dynamic and innovative Assistant Team Leaders to join our Diversionary Activities Team who are passionate about changing the lives of young people. You will be joining our team of specialist staff who use Tyne & Wear Fire and Rescue Service's unique position as a role model and trusted community partner to deliver a range of youth-development programmes. These courses are designed to improve the resilience, aspiration and fire-safety awareness of young people.

Our Prince’s Trust and Phoenix programmes are powerful ways to improve young people’s ability to cope with life’s challenges; to improve their chances of leading productive lives; to improve their career outcomes and create stronger, safer and more cohesive communities.

**The key responsibilities of this role are**:

- Assist and support all aspects of delivery of the programme, ensuring all activities and practices meets the requirements of the curriculum, risk-assessments or awarding bodies.
- Assist in the production and delivery of appropriate learning materials, presentations and programmes in line with the needs of the course, delivering specific training to meet individual needs where appropriate.
- Support the Team Leader in managing the behaviour, welfare and safety of all young people whilst in the care of the Fire Service.
- Assist in managing the progress, behaviour and achievement of young people on the course.
- Assist in the recruitment of young people; assessing and selecting individuals in line with suitability and programme requirements.
- To undertake a variety of administrative duties in relation to the role including assessment under the supervision or a Team Leader.
- To attend and support outdoor activity residential visits.
- To mentor and support young people, providing appropriate feedback as required and liaising with parents/carers or supporting agencies.
