Sunderland, Sunderland, United Kingdom Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service Full time

Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service

Assistant Team Leader Phoenix Project (North of Tyne) 12 Month Fixed Term Contract

Starting Salary Scale 4 - £24,702 + Benefits

The Role

In partnership with Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service we are looking to recruit a dynamic and innovative Assistant Team Leader who is passionate about changing the lives of young people to join our Phoenix Team.

You will be joining a team of specialist staff who use the Fire and Rescue Service's unique position as a role model and trusted community partner to deliver a range of practical fire-fighting and educational activities which engage and enthuse hard to reach young people in our local communities.

Full training in the practical fire-fighter activities will be provided.

The Phoenix programme is a powerful way to improve young people's ability to cope with life's challenges; to improve their chances of leading productive lives; to improve their career outcomes and to create stronger, safer and more cohesive communities.

The key responsibilities of this role are:

  • To support the delivery of practical activities and classroom sessions, ensuring all activities and practices meets the requirements of the curriculum and riskassessments.
  • To assist in the production and delivery of appropriate learning materials, presentations and programmes in line with the needs of the course, delivering specific training to meet individual needs where appropriate.
  • To support the Team Leader in managing the behaviour, progress, welfare and safety of all young people whilst in the care of the Fire Service.
  • To assist in the recruitment of young people; assessing and selecting individuals in line with suitability and programme requirements.
  • To undertake a variety of administrative duties in relation to the role including assessment under the supervision or a Team Leader.
  • To mentor and support young people, providing appropriate feedback as required and liaising with parents/carers or supporting agencies.
  • To be able to travel and work flexibly across the North of Tyne area as required.

The PHOENIX Safer Streets 5 Project

In a unique collaboration between Tyne & Wear and Northumberland Fire and Rescue Services, funding has been secured from The Northumbria Police and Crime Commissioner to expand the existing Phoenix team into the North of Tyne area.

This will allow a new team to be appointed for 12 months to deliver Phoenix programmes across both Fire and Rescue Service areas - from Ashington to North Tyneside - to target young people in communities needing targeted support.

If successful, both services hope to secure funding to continue this provision in the future.
