**About the role**

We are looking for a **Principal Adviser, Executive Communications **to report to the Head of External Communications and work closely with the broader Communications, IR, HR and wider Corporate Affairs teams This role is responsible for delivering outstanding content to support the Group CEO’s and Chairman’s communications activity, in support of Rio Tinto’s strategic objectives.

**What the role entails**

This role is a great opportunity to work in the Rio Tinto external communications team. In this role you will:

- Work with relevant parts of the Communications team to deliver content for Communications engagements in plan for the Group CEO and Chairman, to ensure this is compelling, produced in a tone of voice agreed by the CEO and Chairman, and consistently aligned to the Group purpose, strategy, and values.
- Writing most CEO communications content across channels, including speeches, and harmonising other work (if necessary for it to be produced elsewhere) to ensure a consistent tone of voice.
- Managing the personal LinkedIn account of the Group CEO, in alignment with the Chief of Staff Group and social media strategy.
- Seeking and responding to feedback about CEO Communications to continue to refine and improve impact.
- As time and capacity allows, supporting speechwriting requirements for the broader ExCo.
- As time and capacity allows, supporting broader communications demands for ExCo members - predominantly those that require support in a UK time zone.

Functional & governance
- Actively keep abreast of Group strategy, initiatives, and key issues to ensure communications support for the CEO takes changes into account.
- Stay current on industry trends, CEO activity (particularly media and social media) at peer companies and relevant leading corporates to recommend new ideas where relevant.

**What you’ll bring**

To succeed in this role, you will have:

- Over 10 years’ experience in managing aspects of reputation and communications in large companies, agencies, or government departments. Existing knowledge of Rio Tino helpful.
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills - and specific experience of speechwriting for high profile executives.
- A record of successfully building and maintaining strong relationships with relevant stakeholder groups.
- A high level of discretion and diplomacy and the ability to manage conflict and gain consensus.
- Demonstrated highly collaborative behaviour and ability to derive value from the broader organisation through sharing knowledge, experience, and skills.
- Ability to produce high quality work under time constraints.
