Merrifield Consultants is thrilled to partner with an international charity to find them a Communications Advisor to work with and advise a senior figure with the charity. This role will combine two crucial elements: strategising and leading the communication channels for this person and guiding and advising content based on current affairs, political matters, and more.

Key Responsibilities:

- Shape and guide the strategy, content, and public positioning for the advocacy efforts of a senior figure.
- Craft and refine the majority of outward-facing content on behalf of this senior figure.
- Provide counsel and formulate a comprehensive strategy for the senior figure’s media presence, determining target outlets, tone, and positioning to amplify advocacy impact.
- Supervise the creation and management of the majority of external content related to charity work and advocacy, covering talking points, correspondence, social media, and occasionally speeches and opinion-editorial pieces.
- Assist the senior figure in preparing for public engagements, offering briefing materials and verbal/written briefings as needed.
- Collaborate with the senior team and other leaders to identify strategic communication opportunities that enhance the visibility of senior figures on key topics.
- Develop an annual external communications strategy for senior figures, aligning goals, metrics, and target media outlets/audiences with broader advocacy, fundraising, and influencing objectives in coordination with your line manager.

Skills and Experience:

- Robust background in writing and editing, particularly for esteemed individuals and organizations. Demonstrates outstanding written communication skills, adapting tone and content for diverse audiences and mediums.
- Meticulous attention to detail, ensuring precision in grammar and factual accuracy.
- In-depth knowledge of global media markets in both northern and southern regions, coupled with established relationships with pertinent platforms and journalists.
- Profound comprehension of traditional and digital media landscapes, staying attuned to platform trends for tailored content production.
- Resourceful and self-reliant, exercising excellent judgment while taking ownership of a broad spectrum of responsibilities.
- Proven experience in steering multi-stakeholder projects, adept at collaborating across organizations to achieve objectives. Skilled in navigating and fostering connections among internal and external stakeholders with diplomacy and constructive approaches.
- Accomplished in handling confidential information with the utmost discretion.

This role is perfect for someone who has a fantastic understanding of current affairs and the political landscape across several countries, but as well, you have a complete understanding of the importance of running succinct, sensitive, and intelligent communication channels for a principal figure. This role will be a big commitment and will require someone to be available outside of the standardised hours.
