**Firefighter Control (Control Room Operator)**

The role of Firefighter Control (Control Room Operator) is both challenging and rewarding and one where you will play a vital role in keeping the communities of North Yorkshire safe.

We currently have two permanent vacancies for a Firefighter Control (Control Room Operator) to join our dedicated team at Fire Control Room Northallerton.

The post is conditioned to the Control Self Roster duty system, in accordance with the Scheme of Conditions of Service (Grey Book). You will work a total of 2228 hours annually, 155 shifts per year with an average of 42 hours per week. Your working hours include paid break times, and break times are taken dependent on incident demand during your shift. The shift pattern for this role is made up of Day shifts (8am to 6pm) and Night shifts (6pm to 8am), where you will work 81-day shifts, 68-night shifts and with 6 scheduled training days over the year. Please note that working days, will include some weekend and bank holiday working over the year period.

The Self-Roster system allows team members to choose their day and night shifts every quarter which is authorised on a first come, first serve basis to meet organisational demand.

**The main responsibilities of the role include**:

- Receiving emergency calls from the public, promptly mobilising the appropriate resources to resolve any situations and arrange for the provision of ongoing support at operational incidents.
- Supporting all calls from the initial 999 call to the close of an incident.
- Carrying out daily administrative duties and dealing with general public and staff queries
- Managing operational resourcing across the county, ensuring operational cover and availability.
- Maintaining, reviewing and updating incident records, the contact directory and other sensitive information/ records.
- Updating the Press records and breaking news on the website
- Reporting the availability of assets nationally
- Regular testing of equipment used in the Control Room, including telephony and mobilising equipment
- Liaising with other emergency service control rooms

**About you**

We are looking for highly proactive and efficient individuals with strong communication skills who work effectively with others both within the Fire and Rescue Service, partnering agencies and members of the community. You will be adaptable and flexible with a positive can-do approach and be able to show initiative.

The starting salary for Trainee Rate is £24,590 per annum for the duration of the training period. You will be contracted to attend and complete a mandatory initial six months training and development programme to build a successful career within this environment. This will involve one month classroom-based training, followed by work base training within the control room environment. During this period, you will be assessed to ensure you meet the required standard to commence full duties within the control room.

On commencement of full Control room duties, the salary moves to Development Rate at £25,614 per annum and enrolled onto an externally verified development programme., On completion the salary moves to Competent Rate at £32,776 per annum. This programme will take a minimum of 2 years from the start of your employment.

If the appointed employee is already or has been, deemed a competent Firefighter Control, they will start on the competent rate.
