I am currently have an exciting opportunity for a Case Builder (Crime) to join Leicestershire Police within their Criminal Justice Team on a temporary ongoing basis.

We are ideally looking for someone who has previously worked within the Police and has an understanding of reviewing and submitting case files to the CPS.

You will be working Monday to Friday at their headquarters based near Enderby

**Job Role/Purpose**:
To undertake case preparation work and quality control within the Criminal Justice Team. Review files submitted for consideration of summons/requisition procedures and make decisions upon the

disposal of these files taking into account diversion options, the evidential and public interest tests set out in the Code for Crown Prosecutors and the Director's Guidance on Charging.

**Operational**:
Review files submitted by officers and ensure they are prepared to the correct standard in line

with National File Standard and Manual of Guidance. Review documents and statements to

ensure sensitive material is identified and removed. Submit to CPS with correct naming

conventions applied and within timescales.

Where items are missing in files, request completion by OIC within agreed timescales

Ensure relevant items (e.g., CCTV where necessary) are correctly attached to file before

Submission

Action CPS memos and requests for additional items. This will include generating requests to

Officers/Investigators for additional statements/information as appropriate (for example

medical/CSI statements)

To act as point of contact for allocated files, liaising with other unit/Force members and

partnership agencies addressing enquiries of both a general and technical nature

Manage your own workload and escalate issues effectively in support of effective case

Management

Conduct enquiries on the PNC, providing printouts of previous convictions for all prosecution

files in accordance with national guidelines

Watching CCTV and BWV to ensure it is viewable, playable, and relevant (i.e., not blank);
copying of CCTV/BWV.

Wherever possible to assist OIC in rectifying issues identified before submission to CPS

Where required, to redact unused material including crime reports, incident logs and custody records. Administration: To undertake any necessary administrative tasks associated with the development and composition of a completed file. This may include CCTVcopying, DIR retrieval, PNC General: Undertake such other duties commensurate with the post as may be required for the safe and effective performance of the job, to include providing cover, when needed and appropriate, of a similar role to other Criminal Justiceareas

**ESSENTIAL CRITERIA**

**Knowledge/ Education (including qualifications)**:

- To be educated to NVQ Level 2 standard or equivalent in English Language and GCSE Grade C in Mathematics or be able to demonstrate ability to the above level by work experience.
- To be educated to European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL) Basic Level or be able to demonstrate ability to the above level by work experience.

**Work Experience**:

- Demonstrate an awareness of the Criminal Justice system including the role of the police, CPS and Courts
- Demonstrate the ability to carry out research to identify relevant facts that are not immediately available.
- Must have proven experience of data entry and extracting data for reports and using various computer systems including word and Excel

- Ability to work effectively within a team and build strong working relationships with the team, internal and external customers, and partner agencies.

- Effective organisational skills, ability to prioritise and manage own workloads, whilst working in a highly pressurised environment and meeting strict deadlines when attention to detail is paramount.

- Demonstrates problem solving by gathering information from a range of sources, analysing that information, and making effective decisions based on that information.

**DESIRABLE CRITERIA**

**Knowledge/Education (including qualifications)**
- To hold or be studying for the Certificate in Criminal Justice Administration or hold equivalent experience.

**Work Experience**:

- Demonstrate effective contact and involvement with outside agencies/external customers.
- Demonstrate experience of compiling well-structured reports and written summaries, producing arguments and recommendations

**Special Skills**:

- Experience and knowledge of using the following computer programmes Niche RMS, PNC, Webstorm.
