As a Registrar, you'll be at the heart of meaningful life events, registering births, deaths, marriages, and civil partnerships.

We are often the first point of contact for people who are facing difficult and tragic circumstances and people experiencing optimistic and exciting times. Therefore, we are required to be aware and react to each individual situation and obtain the necessary information, following legislation as instructed by the General Register Office, to complete the registration within the allotted time.

**What we're looking for**:

- Proven customer service experience, ideally in a register office or similar setting.
- Excellent communication and empathy skills for working with people during vulnerable times.
- Excellent IT skills to handle various tasks efficiently.
- Ability to stay calm and adaptable under pressure.
- Willingness to undertake the National Vocational Qualification for Registrars.

**Your key responsibilities**:

- Delivering top-notch customer service, especially for vulnerable clients.
- Supporting the Registration Service Manager and stepping in when needed.
- Accurate registration of births, deaths, and other associated duties.
- Conducting marriages and civil partnerships with precision and care.
- Providing celebratory ceremonies and citizenship ceremonies.
- Undertaking and providing training to new staff as needed.
- Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of legislation and guidelines.
- Ensuring financial accountability in fee collection and processing.

Qualifications and skills we're looking for:

- Nationally Accredited Qualification for Registrars (or willingness to work towards it).
- Excellent administration and IT skills.
- Ability to process detailed information with accuracy under pressure.
- Experience of working to strict timetables in a demanding environment.
- Demonstrable experience in customer-focused roles, handling confidential information.

This full-time, face-to-face, office-based position involves 37 hours of work, spread across 5 days out of 6, from Monday to Saturday. You will be expected to work approximately 1 out of every 7 Saturdays. The schedule is designed to accommodate customer appointments, and we are unable to accommodate job sharing requests.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expect all staff to share this commitment. Applicants to posts that are exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act will require a DBS from the Disclosure and Barring Service before the appointment is confirmed.
