**Job description**:
This is an exciting time to join DIO within the Major Programmes & Projects (MPP) team, delivering on multi-million-pound capital construction projects, critical to Defence Operations in the UK & Overseas

The DIO Major Programmes and Projects (MPP) Air Directorate is a portfolio of work valued at approximately £4bn covering a dispersed geographic area. It encompasses all capital construction work undertaken in the UK on behalf of the Royal Air Force, as well as elements of the Defence Estates Optimisation Programme. The new customer focussed Air directorate strives to build commonality and consistency of service to the customer across the portfolio, delivering an outstanding service to time, cost and performance in a safe and responsible manner.

**Summary of the Role**

The DIO MPP Air Programme Management Office (PMO), Governance and Capability lead is responsible for supporting and executing the strategic intent of the Air PMO and its vision and purpose, working with the MPP Portfolio Office to meet agreed functional outputs. The Air PMO is a new team, and this role provides an opportunity to support the teams growth with review and development of governance and capability for both MPP and the customer. Responsible for supporting the transformation and change activities across the MPP Air portfolio and articulates clear and consistent standards to our delivery teams. Responsible for seeking continual improvements, through improved reporting, assurance, communication and risk management working alongside Commercial and Finance colleagues to enable the Air directorate to be a successful Integrated Delivery Team.

**Person specification**:
Working at the heart of a high-profile capital infrastructure delivery team, you are responsible for:

- The provision of a range of project management services directly to each delivery area to support successful project delivery; including risk, issues & opportunity management, scheduling & dependencies, change management, lessons learnt and benefits management.
- The provision of a range of programme management services on behalf of the 1* SCS Programme Director, supporting the PMO Lead to meet the governance, assurance and reporting obligations of the programme of work.
- Embedding effective project and programme disciplines across the team and bringing a consistent approach to the development of project/programme artefacts required to support delivery.
- Oversight of the business management function leading to the development of the right sized organisation with the skills and capability to meet the customer’s demand for infrastructure delivery.
- Support PMO DH to deliver business outputs - to support you in delivering your responsibilities, you will lead a focussed team comprising of 4 x C1, 5 x C2, 1 x D and 2 x E1.

**Desirable Experience & Skills**
- Experience and knowledge of wider P3M aspects (e.g. risk, schedule management, business case, stakeholder management etc.).
- Experience of working in the Ministry of Defence and/or other Government Departments or Public Sector organisations.
- Experience in infrastructure Portfolio, Programme and Project delivery.
- Qualification: Managing Successful Programmes - Practitioner Level, APMQ.
