London, United Kingdom Saga Full time

Job Introduction
*** At Saga we’re radically flexible which means our colleagues have total autonomy over where they work - home, hybrid or hub. This role has a hybrid element which means our team come together when we need to collaborate.**

Our people are everything to us. The way they deliver exceptional experiences every day for our customers, for their colleagues. The way they own what they do. Their 'Why's it like that?' curiosity. How they always think of others and work together to get things done. For us, for you, make do will never do. Good enough? Not even close. Come and do the best work of your life alongside lovely colleagues. Come to Saga.

The Editor-in-Chief for Saga Homes is the architect of success for this exciting new property - we're looking for an experienced editor that has a huge desire to speak to a large, engaged audience that’s crying out for quality, discerning content.

You’ll enjoy the challenge of developing strategies of how to speak to our audience in a way that’s truly helpful, with a useful budget to help you hit your goals. You’ll be setting an editorial agenda for the over-50s across social, video, audio and the web - if you’ve got loads of ideas on how to connect with our audience while hitting budget targets, you’ll be a great fit.

Our EIC of Homes will be someone that loves to make their home life as amazing as it could be - for instance, buying the right appliance, saving energy, making a garden an oasis of happiness or helping people decide what to watch. These are just some ideas though - we're looking for a real ideas generator who will us shape the direction of the site.

Your primary goal is to make sure we’re creating genuinely world-class content around a variety of home-related topics, choosing the perfect medium each time to deliver your message, all with the specific end user and purpose for the content in mind.

You’ll make sure each piece is entertaining, inspirational or educational (as applicable) and lead a sizable team of editors and writers to achieve your mission. You’ll be creating content that digs into the stories that fire those passions, create easy-to-digest buying advice and figure out the informative pieces that will give our readers a desire to try new things and enhance those they already love.

You’ll need to enjoy looking at data to discover what our readers are really interested, but you’ll need to be able to fuse that with a gut instinct of what’s right - analytics can only show you so much, and editorial skill is equally as important here.

You’ll be a natural mentor, have a desire for leadership and be willing to lead by example - training, guiding, promoting diversity and developing trust with our audience, using your expertise and authority to inspire your team.

You’ll be required to develop and maintain industry and PR contacts, and attend events, launches, meetings, briefings, and trade shows both nationally and internationally.

If you’re someone with a thirst for action and a desire to get in on the ground floor developing the leading homes site for the over 50s, then send us your CV and - most importantly - a covering letter explaining why you’d be perfect for this role.

Please note, the cover letter is needed for sifting purposes, so please ensure you upload one to avoid disappointment

Main Responsibilities
- Spotting traffic trends and analysing what will work well for our audience
- Using analytics tools efficiently to evolve the site’s content strategy
- Be a champion of quality editorial, fusing Google’s EAT guidelines with high-quality articles our audience will love
- Day-to-day operation and running of the site, so great management and delegation skills are a must
- Being a great writer: amazing news, features, buying guides and reviews come from the top
- Have a strong network of freelancers and PRs in the homes space - and a desire to grow it.
- Being a strong events organiser - leaving no stone unturned when big launches happen so our audience stays informed
- Being a key player at the editor level of Saga Media - we want you to have a voice and use it
- 5+ years experience writing high quality online content, preferably within the homes sector, with a proven track record producing engaging content
- Experience managing an online team
- Experience using analytics tools to track article performance and ability to spot trends and act quickly to capitalise on them
- Strong knowledge of the homes market
- In-depth knowledge of SEO and eCommerce best practices
- Key industry contacts within the homes sector

Our Saga Values:

- Precision Pace - Always owning and making things happen.
- Empathy - Always aware of others.
- Curiosity - Always asking why.
- Collaboration - Always one team, the Saga team
