A rapidly growing organisation within Teesside are looking to appoint an assistant accountant.
**Your new role**
As Assistant Accountant you will report directly to the Financial Controller and will work alongside the wider Finance Department covering credit control and purchase ledger when required.
This role will have aspects of all areas of finance including some key areas where you will have sole responsibility; payroll, invoice discounting and elements of management reporting at month end.
You will need to work with initiative, be inquisitive and show creativity as we need you to be able to identify control/system inefficiencies through your own internal audit reviews; you will need to be able to 'think outside the box' to find optimal solutionsto problems/issues found.
We also need you to be commercially aware and be able to dig through data and financial information to suggest cost control measures.
The Role Requirements:
- Submission of monthly payroll to outsourced payroll office within deadlines
- Responsibility for onboarding and offboarding staff on Sage HR
- Administration (daily portal uploads, cash drawdowns) of the invoice discounting facility
- Daily and monthly reconciliation of the invoice discounting facility
- Reporting daily cash position to the Directors
- Month End Procedures including:
- Bank Reconciliation (and review & explanation of unreconciled items)
- Fixed Asset Schedule Maintenance & Depreciation Journal
- Hire Purchase Reconciliation
- Overhead/Transport Accruals relating to invoices on bespoke system
- Reviewing all nominal postings for accuracy and training the staff if coding errors are identified
- Cost Reporting
- Overtime Reporting
- Ad hoc reporting as required by Financial Controller and Finance Director
- Periodic internal audit of all finance functions to highlight necessary control or process improvements
- Responsible for implementation of new controls/systems
- Responsible for projects allocated to the Assistant Accountant on the company's strategic OKR's.
- Holiday cover and assistance as required on other finance functions including credit control and purchase ledger as necessary.
- Joint responsibility for monitoring and maintaining the finance inbox and sole responsibility to monitor the payroll inbox.
**What you'll need to succeed**
Key Competencies Required for the Role:
- Work in a team environment where accuracy and speed are both equally important
- Showcase inquisitive nature and to work autonomously on projects with little direction.
- Demonstrate efficiency within a professional role requiring diligence
- Demonstrate past experience identifying and resolving problems/issues and demonstrating sound decision making experience.
- Demonstrate past experience identifying areas of efficiency/cost control and how you investigated and recommended improvements/savings.
- Confident telephone manner showcasing service excellence.
- Ability to demonstrate past achievement on KPIs/OKRs.
Additional information
- Experience and knowledge of Excel (moderate level)
- Proven experience within industry finance department or a finance practice background with management accounts and audit experience
- AAT Level 4 or part qualified ACCA/CIMA/ACA (essential)
