What it's like to work here:Anglesey Abbey is one of the National Trust’s busiest places and we hope to welcome around 400,000 visitors this year. With its Jacobean-style house, colourful gardens and working watermill it is one of our largest properties and is located just a few miles from both a developing Cambridge and the regional artery road A14. Travel is therefore quick and easy.
A much-loved garden used by locals for walking and exercising, Anglesey Abbey is a garden which changes with the seasons. The Grade 2 listed garden is layered with formal gardens, wildflower meadows and extensive spring bulb displays, a significant snowdrop collection, winter garden, sweeping avenues, tree plantings and numerous statues. This is an opportunity to make a real difference within an ever-evolving environment where your ideas and input will be valued.
You’ll be part of a dedicated property team that aims to deliver the highest standards of conservation and care for our collections, buildings and gardens to maximise its commercial potential and deepen audience engagement. What you'll be doing:As a Gardener you’ll assist in making sure that the gardens are maintained to a high horticultural standard. Reporting to our Senior Gardeners, you’ll assist in supervising our 40+ garden volunteers, and support with the general maintenance of the gardens such as mulching, pruning, leaf clearing, mowing, weeding, planting and maintenance of trees, shrubs, herbaceous plants and lawn care. Other tasks will include work necessary to develop, enhance and conserve Anglesey Abbey and contribute to the delivery of projects.
You’ll be expected to interact with the public on a daily basis, answering the many questions and championing the National Trusts aims and values, help out with tours and work alongside colleagues in other departments to set up events when needed.

Who we're looking forTo be successful in this role you should be able to demonstrate the below:
- Trained as a professional gardener/horticulturalist with a good level of practical experience.
- RHS Level 2 or equivalent.
- Have proven practical gardening/horticulture experience, as well as a strong knowledge of plants
- Confidence to participate in garden activities and events
- Competence with machinery/equipment use and maintenance; including tractors, chainsaws, and pedestrian mowers with accreditation as required for Health and Safety compliance.
