**The Public Relations Officer will**: Maintain, develop and maximise relationships with the media, both print and broadcast. Identify potential media stories, organise photo opportunities, draft press releases and proactively seek opportunities for the Hospice and its representatives to appear in the media. Interview a wide range of people including staff, volunteers, patients and their families and supporters to write engaging case studies and news stories that highlight the work of the hospice. Circulate media releases after approval from the Head of Marketing and Communications.

Monitor and record all media coverage received and manage a press clippings service. Write engaging and creative content for the website and other Hospice materials including case studies, news stories and expert comment. Draft lines of enquiry and prepare statements with the Head of Marketing and Communications to deal with any media enquiries around sensitive issues. Work with the Head of Marketing and Communications to respond to reactive media enquiries.

Keep abreast of sector news and relevant stories in the press where the hospice could contribute or engage in the debate. Work with colleagues to enter awards relevant to the hospice and prepare award entries. Build relationships with staff and volunteers to develop opportunities for expert comment both in the media and for the Hospice website Manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring deadlines are met and stakeholders are informed of progress.
